Initially, my husband bought me another brand. The light was so bright, I had to cover it to sleep. After much research, I saw this was a problem with most of the clock radios. The iHome is the only one that seemed to have more options, and I knew at worst case, I could turn the light off, so I took a chance. To my delight, there were many, many light settings, the dimmest of which was perfect for sleeping without adding light to the room. Please note that this is the iHome iH8BR. There are other models which may not have these options. I saw many excellent reviews on the older models, so I felt comfortable with trying this one. I was also able to see the instruction manual at the iHome website, which helped me understand the difference in the various models. Another nice feature is that all the buttons have the descriptions lit on the buttons so that you are able to read which button to select in the dark rather than the braille method when you need to adjust a setting. The light from the lettering does not add significant light to the room. This model has equalizer options, which are nice. The clock sets itself based on the time zone selected, and it also has a daylight savings setting. I can't think of anything negative to write on this item. Normally I don't write reviews, but since I had difficulty finding information about models that are dim enough to sleep, I wanted to provide this information for others. iHome must read the reviews, as this model has enough settings to make anyone happy. I'm quite sensitive to sleeping with light. I will add that the clock radio my husband first purchased was the Memorex, and that model was similarly priced, yet didn't come close to the quality and options with the iHome. First off, the price. The IH8BR retails for $99.99 at electronics stores. I purchased it for $68 on Amazon. This radio is truly amazing. It doesn't take up much room (it's actually quite a compact item), and it definitely surpassed my expectations of a clock radio. The sound quality is super-crisp, and the radio itself is so easy to use. The only complaint that I have about it is that is really is a dust magnet, so be prepared to wipe it down every couple of days or so depending on how dusty your room is. The lighting is great especially when the lights are off. The orange-amber backlighting of the buttons looks really nice, and the LCD display light can be dimmed/raised to your liking. The standard setting Is a tad bright (I found myself waking up if I was facing it in the middle of the night), but that's nothing a press of the dimmer/snooze button can't fix. The remote is a great plus especially since I'm at my desk a lot, and the radio is on my nightstand. Overall, I love this radio. When you connect your iPod, and raise the volume, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the superb quality of the speakers. Though the sound quality isn't as high and loud as the pricier JBL products, this clock radio definitely holds its own. Oh, and the gradual wake feature really is nice. It's not jarring or sudden like others have said it was. It's nice not waking up to BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP in the morning. I hope I've hit all major points for the IH8BR. I Completely recommend this to those who are trying to make a decision between this and any other items that they may be looking at. You won't be disappointed!Customer Review: i love this unit.

this is a nice machine. the dock seems a bit flimsy, though. i get worried that i am going to break something if i might accidentally bump the ipod while it is docked, but so far everything is in great working order.
the things i love the most are the sleep features (i like being able to fall asleep to the ipod and wake up to the radio, for one thing. i also like that the volume controls are separate for sleeping and waking, so i don't have to worry about re-setting the volume high enough to wake myself up.) i also like the sound quality. it isn't fantastic, but it is pretty damn good for the price. another thing i like is the portability. i took this unit to a cabin, and it was amazing to have all my music and videos available to share in such a small unit. i just tucked it into a small bag, and it was good to go. the back-up battery has worked great to maintain all my settings when i plug and unplug. the radio reception is much better than my old clock radio, too. i used to constantly run the battery down on my ipod, and i would have to make a point to charge it. now that i have this unit, that is never an issue. it is so easy to use as a charging station ... just put my ipod in the dock and let it sit!
i like this unit so much, i bought two -- one for home, and one for my office. i highly recommend it.

I just pirchased this system when I found out the Bose that I wanted was 299.00. A friend mentioned it was much cheaper than that and I found myself with only $150.00 in my pocket when I was purchasing.
Virtually ALL of the other docking stations in the $50-200 dollar price range were far inferior in sound quality to the iHome H8 system. I was really *really* suprised by the sound. It's controllable through a decent EQ system and has clear, crisp sound that will fill up a room.
I needed a good sound system because I teach Yoga. I needed something easily portable (which it is) that had the ability to fill the room with equal sound. I'm very happy with this product.
All of the other frill that come with it are just bonuses for me... Big ones! I didn't realize what all I was getting, I really just needed good sound. So, I am very happy with the system and the sleep mode (where the volume decreases) works fine with my Nano. Everything works fine infact.
I highly recommend this product. : )

i bought this for $89.00 less than a year ago from amazon and it was worth every penny. you get three alarm options, ipod, radio, or buzzer. am and fm reception are uniformly good, better than my $300 stereo. the alarm is ridiculously easy to set, and easy to change for a later time on the weekends. it has a switch to make the recent daylight time change a snap. the backlight is easily adjustable. the higher settings are way too bright, but like i said, you can tone it down to a perfect level. the sound is excellent out of such small speakers. although its made for the bedstand, it can be clearly heard and enjoyed throughout my one bedroom apartment. the feature i like the most is the auto shutoff. it is so great to drift off to a great podcast or a soothing music playlist, and then wake up to it too! then when i'm off to work, i grab my fully charged ipod from the ihome dock, and i'm good to go. i would buy another one of these in a heartbeat. highly, highly recommended.
