The official Zune case is definitely the way to go. Sophisticated and well crafted, this case if worth the money.
The exterior leather is thick and durable, sure to protect your Zune in case of minor falls such as off a table. The interior is soft with a fashionable design. The small pocket is useful for holding loose money. The stitching is very strong, with no loose ends to come undone. The color of the leather is a very dark chocolate brown. The flap leaves just enough room at the top of the Zune for a charm strap to fit through. The sync port is not accessible through the case, probably because of how thick the leather is, so you'll have to remove the case to sync or charge your Zune. The 'play' and 'back' buttons are covered by the leather, but still function perfectly. The touch pad and screen are exposed, not covered by plastic or anything. A small magnet hidden inside the leather keeps the case closed.
It seems previous models came with a card loaded with enough Microsoft Points for a single song download, that is no longer the case. No points card is included, at least not with mine.
