Customer Review: Can't tell it's not Canon

After reading the reviews, I decided to give this battery grip a shot. Partly because of the low price compared to the Canon brand. Right out of the box, it felt light, but the plastic and rubber on the bottom didn't feel cheap at all. I've never owned a Canon grip, so I cannot compare. It is easy and quick to install the unit to the camera body. After installed, the grip attaches firmly to the camera body. I do agree with other reviews on the battery door, that it feels a bit flimsy. However, I had no problem inserting or removing the batteries from the grip. I also like the fact that you can have a single battery in any slot. However, the battery info reported in the camera varies a bit, when I moved the 1 battery from slot A to slot B and back and forth. With two fully charged batteries in, it reported 100% on each. I removed one and took a couple of shots, the battery info reported 99%. Moved the battery to the empty slot and now it reports 90%. Inserted the other battery, so now both are occupied, the info reported only 1 battery with 90%. Ejected both and re-insert them, and the info now report both at 100%. Took a few shots and the info reported both at 99%. I also loaded the battery tray with 6 rechargeable AA batteries and insert into the grip. The camera reported "Remaining Cap." with full battery icon. Took a few shots and that also worked fine.
The release button and wheel feel and function very close to that on the body itself. The only thing that sort of bother me is the focus on and exposure lock buttons are closer compared to the layout on the body. It will definitely take a bit of getting used to.
This is my first battery grip, so I don't know exactly how it is compared to others. Besides the weird battery info reporting, I'm quite satisfied with this purchase. Oh one more thing, it's quite heavy after holding it for a while. So I think the hand strap may be needed for additional support.
