Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of X-Rite i1Display 2 Color Calibrator for LCD, CRT, and Laptop Displays

Customer Review: Amazing Results
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for adjusting my high-end Apple display for doing color critical fine art printing. It made some slight adjustments, and improved the color. But the amazing results came from a Samsung monitor that I use for entertainment only (movies, Netflix streaming, surfing, etc). I always disliked the color from this Samsung...it was too bright and over-saturated, the dock icons glowed neon colors. No matter which preset color setting I used, or how much I tweaked the settings on OS X, I could not get a normal looking color from this display, until I used this calibrator! I ended up with drastically reduced R G B settings, and a brightness level that is way lower than default, but finally I'm happy with my cheap screen!

Customer Review: Affordable, easy to use, noticeable difference in displayed images
Summary: 5 Stars

For the longest time, I wondered which color calibration device I should purchase. I compared brands and units for weeks. Then I attended an online workshop by X-Rite staff, and was convinced that the EyeOne Display2 unit was what I needed.

I use it calibrate a notebook LCD, and a desktop LCD monitor. The difference before and after is very noticeable, and struck me since I really thought my monitors were closely aligned in their color profile before I calibrated them.

If you need to calibrate printers, this is not your unit -- look at the ColorMunki. But if you just use onscreen image or send your printing to a photo lab, then you will be happy with this unit.

Customer Review: Easy to use, fast, good results
Summary: 5 Stars

I was cautiously optimistic regarding the X-Rite Eye-One and the accompanying software; apparently when using monitor calibrators, the software matters as much (if not more) than the hardware. Thankfully, I found the software (the OS X version at least) to be easy to use and well documented. The user preferences that one might find confusing (gamma, luminance, white point) all have values marked as 'recommended' which keeps one from getting lost. Also, the results were excellent; my monitor now produces more nuanced colors over a wider range, and I can be confident in its accuracy. Great device, good software, whats not to like?

Customer Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This product is extremely easy to use - despite what you may read below. It offers both an easy and advanced mode, both of which providing on-screen instructions as to what to do. It really could perhaps include some printed instructions, but I didn't have any problems. If you can't get a handle on how this thing works then perhaps you'd be better off sticking with film.

In terms of efficacy, I have noticed that if your monitor is up to snuff, you'll have no problems getting spot-on colour correctness which will save you plenty in printing costs as well as frustration!

I highly recommend this product!

Customer Review: Works just perfectly
Summary: 5 Stars

The calibration worked very smoothly, especially never having done this before. Not only was I able to match a cheap westinghouse monitor on my second pc to my nicer dell monitor on my workstation, but then went and used it on my wife's Sony laptop to really bring out the correct colors that I didn't realize it wasn't displaying correctly.
I do use this for local printing to an Epson R1800, so it has become an easy essential part of my color process. I can't necessarily say the average person will need to calibrate a decent monitor if you are only posting images to the web.
