Customer Review: Excellent Quality and impressive results for price

I am the president of a small company and am in the process of updating all labels and advertising media. While working with my graphics designer, I discovered that there was a great disparity when it came to color matching between computers. What I saw was not even close to what my graphics designer was actually using. We are in different states so I could not simply look on the system my material is created on. I researched various calibration tools and found the X-Rite Eye-One Display 2. The reviews and capabilities fit with what I was looking for as did the price. After receiving the unit, I was very impressed with the packaging, the quality of manufacture of the unit itself, and the ease of installation and use. I was literally up and running with a calibrated monitor in less than 10 minutes time from opening the package. The product works exactly as advertised. I now see what my graphics designer is presenting and can make my decisions with confidence, avoiding printing surprises. I am using a Vista 32 system with an Acer P243w LCD monitor and have had no issues whatsoever. The Acer P243w monitor impressed me when I first purchased it but after calibration with the Eye-One 2, the display is stunning. I bought the Eye-One recently since I was having trouble seeing shadow details on both my monitors.
I am not sure if they changed packaging since the last reviewer, but mine was simple. Open the flap, fold the front down and everthing is right there for your use. It folds back up nice and easy to store everything until later use.
As soon as I got the package, I brought it to my work computer and plugged it in. I used the "easy" method for this computer. It walked me thru each step (not many in the "easy" method). I was done in a few minutes. One great part is it shows you a comparison of before and after. It is amazing how bad the monitor was calibrated before.
I also brought it home for my laptop. I used the "advanced" setting for this computer. It was just as easy. There is an explaination on each step of what you need to do. The process only took a few minutes and I was done.
It feels good to have a nice and consistant view between both computers.
I have never used calibration equipment before, so I do not have a basis to compare this system against. But I am happy with what I got and its ease of use.
Customer Review: A lot easier than calibrating by eye

I never could get the colors on my monitor right, games in standard mode looked washed out, games in scenery mode they were fine when the game sim was in day time hours, but games where the sim was at night time hours the colors were way to dark so then I had to change my monitor to standard mode or night mode. I got tired of changing my monitor display modes back and forth. I tried the Win7 monitor calibration utility and that did not help much at all.
The i1D2 calibrated my monitor where I can leave it in standard mode all the time and the colors look great. I highly recommend this product to anyone that wants to calibrate their monitor and do not want to look at test patterns downloaded off the web for hours on end while trying to calibrate their monitor. I calibrated my monitor a month ago with the i1D2 and I am still amazed at the improvement in colors.
The $200 price tag at first made me hesitate, but I am so glad that I went ahead and bought it. You can use this for years on any PC and on any monitor.
I also can highly recommend Norman Camera, I bought this on a Saturday, they shipped it on Monday and it was delivered on Thursday!
Customer Review: Does more than what I probably need. Does it well though.

I do a lot of design work across two monitors on a Mac. I'm not a color professional or expert, but I can recognize when color are off. The Eye-One Display 2 gets the colors matching properly across my two monitors. The advanced mode in the software can do way more than I possibly need it to, so basic mode works flawlessly for me. I probably didn't need to invest in a ~$200 color calibrator, but I like knowing that I always have a device that can handle pretty much any specifications I throw at it. The less expensive X-Rite Eye-One Display LT version probably could have met all my needs (or most), but I don't regret spending a bit more on an excellent device. I don't have any experience with other color calibrators, but this one is awesome.
Some fundamental documentation in print form would be nice, but not necessary--it doesn't take too much upper-level thinking to figure out the basics. Install software (I downloaded this online), launch software, plug in device, follow on-screen instructions. This is basically described in the super basic "Quick Start" guide.
Customer Review: Only limited by the quality of your monitor

I usually go in depth with a PROS and CONS list. However it would just confirm what's already been reviewed.
I just have few things to say.
1. What a huge difference! Everything looks better now on this monitor. It's an average one too, but the colors/contrast/brightness have been corrected now and I love it!
2. If you're serious about this stuff (photography/video stuff) make sure that your viewing area is consistent and mild. Don't have crazy colored walls and open windows that change the amount of light coming in based on the time of day.
3. Very well priced, good software...I wasn't sure which piece I needed to use at first (it comes with 4 choices) but I figured it out.
4. Without a doubt, my prints are better and more consistent! I can see something on my monitor and have a very good idea of what to expect when the prints arrive. When you sell your photos, this is important.
5. In many 'official' reviews - and I read TONS of them. This was in the top 2 overall for monitor calibration. If it was ever beat by another product, it was by more expensive equipment.
