Customer Review: Easy Backups, Small Size

For years I have been doing my backups with a 3.5" hard drive in an external drive enclosure. Doings backups was a pain, requiring me to get out the enclosure, the usb cable, and the power supply for the enclosure.
This portable drive changes all of that. It is extremely small and just works when plugged into my laptop (a Dell Inspiron 1100). I have moved my backups over to it and am very happy. A nice bonus to the power via USB is that it is whisper quiet. Windows XP recognized the drive immediately upon plugging it in.

After reading all the reviews below, I was apprehensive to buy this. But after using this for a little over a month now to backup my data I can say it is a great buy. I use both mac and pc and the thing works flawlessly. It transfers files quickly and quietly to and from both my macbook and pc desktop. I haven't had any compatability issues with it and the backups are quick and efficient.
I would highly recommend this if you are looking for an external hard drive -- it's small and a relatively cheap.

I wanted a portable 120 GB USB HD to store video files, mostly as a backup, and also for movies. As you know, video files are large files, and this little hard drive handled them just fine.
I have a PC, not a Mac, so no power shortage issues. It's a very attractive drive with a sturdy case, and really a steal of a deal around $100. Then you add the WD reputation for durability, and how can you resist it ?
This drive is working beautifully. I don't think you will be disappointed.

This product is just fabulous. I needed something to back up a lot of photos which take a lot of room. Single 1GB flash drives just were not enough. For less than $100 this is the solution. It installs on an XP machine with no fuss and you simple copy whatever you want on to it. It connects with a short USB cable and you can carry it easily since it is small and light. I may get another one for all my business documents.
Highly recommended in this world of big photo, video and music files.

I think it's great. Easy to use, and so far very reliable. It works well from my desktop and from my notebook (both PCs). Fast and quiet. This is my second WD Passport (the first one was 60GB), and I don't know why anyone would have a problem with them unless of course you get a lemon.
Since I last wrote that, I've found that I need more and more space, so I've moved on to the 250 and 320 gig drives. But I continue to be impressed with the speed and durability of these Passports.
