Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital WDXMS1200TN Passport 120 GB USB 2.0 2.5-Inch Portable Hard DriveCustomer Review: Easy, fast, portable Summary: 5 Stars
I use this to store the personal stuff you should not have on your work computer but occasionally need to view from there. For instance, if my mom calls and needs a photo of the kids for a special holiday gift, I can pop this drive in my usb port at work, click a feww buttons and voila, mom is happy. And you know we must keep mom happy. Security on the device is not strong enough for me to feel very comfortable storing confidential data but for photos, music, and movies, this device is great!!! It is small, easy to carry around, can be dropped a couple of times without major damage, and stores a tremendous amount. The entire harddrive on my laptop has 1/3 the capacity of this portable drive, so I store photos and files for use on my laptop and two desktops.
Customer Review: This has been a godsend! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this hard drive for two months now, and it has quickly become the most valuable thing I own! I've never, ever had any problems with powering it (and I have two laptops - one PC and one Mac) and it's so lightweight and convenient I can slip it in my pocket and go anywhere. I've moved my entire music collection onto it, and read and write to it constantly. The transfers are very fast. I've never had a problem with it. It's smaller and holds twice the music of my iPod, and it has been invaluable in transferring documents and video files from system to system. And because it's FAT32 formatted it works seamlessly with Macs AND PCs.
My only regret is that I didn't get the 160GB version!
Customer Review: Great product!! Exactly what I was looking for!! Booster USB Y cable is on ebay!! Summary: 5 Stars
This is perfectly what I was looking for, a portable hard drive that has all my files and not having to carry around and hookup to a extra plug outlet everytime. It looks better than the other portable hard drives too, maxtor, simpletech, etc. I'm surprised this wasn't available before. Oh and for those with the old laptops that need the extra booster cable for the older laptops, they have the cable on ebay for 5 dollars. Look up "USB Y cable" on ebay and you'll find it. You don't need to pay 20 dollars for the official WD booster cable. I tried it and it worked like a charm for my old toshiba satellite laptop. Although it still sucks b/c it is 1.0 usb. But it can access it perfectly.
Customer Review: The perfect solution Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a backup drive and after reviewing some options as well as reading their reviews I decided to take a chance on this one. I am very glad I did! The drive is extremely portable since it is so compact, the access speed is very good, and unlike some of the reviews I have read I did not need any additional power source only what was supplied by my USB connection. I have both an IBM ThinkPad and an HP Pavillion, I have used it with both with absolutely no trouble. I did read in a few reviews that after extended use some became inoperable, as far I have not experienced any failure. I must mention though that I have only owned it for a month but have used it at least 20 times.
Customer Review: Nice Device Summary: 5 Stars
Ok, lets post pros and cons about the device:
Cons:
- The cable that it includes is very short, like 6 inches at most.
- If you try a longer cable and your power supply is not that powerful, the HDD will simply not work correctly.
- It is USB 2.0 (this is not bad, but if you plug it to an USB 1.0 port, the power will not be enough)
Pros:
- VERY light and small (for portability purposes)
- Very big (talking about storage)
- Fast access
- USB 2.0 (so you can plug it almost anywhere)
- Very cool looking
I give 5 stars on it since I like the device a lot but take these facts in consideration too.
