Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital WD Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDE1UBK10000N (Black)Customer Review: Exactly what I was looking for. Summary: 5 Stars
I don't spend a huge amount of time worrying about these things, but the 1TB was only a little more costly than the 250Gig and 500Gig hard drives so I decided to spring for it. Good thing, my new camera takes incredible pictures that translate into enormous files. I've also moved my iTunes library over to it with no difficulty.
It runs silent, and the only indication that it is on is a small blue light in the back of the unit and a very small spooling up noise when I open it. I probably didn't need something with quite so much storage, but like I said, I'm using it in a fairly limited capacity, just music and picture storage. It's very fast, very easy to use, and so far has performed perfectly.
Customer Review: big, heavy, solid, sturdy, dependable, it does it's job Summary: 5 Stars
A little bigger than I expected it to be. Well built and solid construction (rubber ends are a good touch) keeps it from sliding around and possibly helps prevent damage from minor drops.
Unlike other reviews...I knew that it would have to come with a power adapter. It is a 1Tb drive after all!!!
My only issues are (as others have stated), that it will not allow my system to reboot when it is plugged in. And, NO power switch (which in a way makes sense...if you were to bump it during transfer...it would probably corrupt the whole drive)
Seems to be a much better product then the WD MyBook drive.
For what it is and what it does...Excellent product.
Customer Review: Great hard drive, but... Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very good external hard drive. It's literally plug and play. It doesn't come with a CD-ROM in order to format. If it wasn't for reading the reviews, I would have no idea that I had to format the drive first. I had to go to the WD web site to find directions on how to format. The formatting process takes only five minutes. The other problem that I had was saving files. Again, I spent hours trying to find this information on the WD web site until I had to go to the Microsoft web site in order to save files using the back up feature in Vista. I just wish that WD would've made it much easier if they included either a CD-ROM or instructions that could've been included with the drive itself.
Customer Review: Rock solid Summary: 5 Stars
I was running out of space for my laptop, so I was in the market for an external USB HD. It was either this or the Seagate FreeAgent 320GB for roughly the same price. I chose this because I don't really bring my laptop anywhere, which is good - because this thing is quite heavy. Despite that, it's VERY durable, would probably withstand a nuclear bomb blast. Easy plug and play USB 2.0 are also a plus.
The only quip I personally had was that I had to convert the file system from FAT32 to NTFS because I couldn't copy over files larger than 4GB. Anyways, I've already backed up most of the content on my laptop on this thing, and still have PLENTY of room left! Great buy!
Customer Review: Western Digital Elements Summary: 5 Stars
There are so many external hard drives on the market deciding on one is the most difficult decisison. My internal-external (removal) hard drive on my HP crashed suddenly. I had a repair to check the drive out and I was advsied to get a new one. I woudl have preferred one that woudl fit the origial slot in the HP case however HP wanted far too much for a replacement. THe drive was very easy to install and I have been using it for quite some time. It runs all the hours the PC is on and I have never noticed any noise or excessive heat coming from the unit. I am well satisfied. I basically have just pictures stored on the unit. Now just over 51000 pictures.
