My Western Digital portable drive has become an essential part of my computing. I have two computers: a Dell at home and a Lenovo at the office. Both computers are able to power the drive through a single USB connection. I use the WD drive for backup and transferring data between the two computers.
The WD drive is small, light, and runs quietly. I keep it in my backpack. It has performed well for about a year now. I chose black, but I think that a brighter color might has been more practical for finding the drive among all the other stuff that I carry around.

I've had my WD Passport 250 GB for 3 weeks, it is a great little hard drive that just sits on the back of my computer and is ready when ever I need to back up or retrieve anything. I love that it is always on and doesn't need a separate power cord, I already have two full power strips under my desk!
It replaced a Teac unit 3x the size with only 160 GB that would always get fried if it was turned off or came unpluged while the computer was on, which happened 3 times, so I'm loving this compact WD unit.

While I could have gotten my girlfriend a different hard drive cheaper, this more than makes up for it's slightly high price with its quality and size. It is extremely convenient for her to use in her memory heavy college program as it's small enough to fit the limited desk space and doesn't require a power cord.
So far it's working great under windows, linux and mac. The cord is short but it's also easy to carry around.
It scratches easily but we got a nice case for it and it's working great!

Many of the other reviews here note how simple this product is. That's the best part about it. You plug it in, decide whether or not to install the pre-loaded software, and then just use it. This is a no-frills device that does what it says it does. The best part is that it's USB-powered to no other cables are needed other than the USB, and the speed of data transfer seems to be find for the casual user. I backed up most of the contents of My Documents (about 40 GB) and it took about 1.5 hrs. Excellent product.Customer Review: Wish I'd gotten one too...

I bought this as a father's day gift and my dad loves it so far... yes as someone else has posted the pre-loaded software is complete junk but we all knew that anyways no? Anyways he's played around with it all weekend loading stuff onto it and playing movies off it for hours at a time and it really doesn't get as warm as my other externals do... for a fanless drive this kinda surprised me.
All in all a sleek little hard-drive with a good cost-to-storage ratio.
