I have the 250 GB drive in black. This is my first external hard drive, so I can't compare it to others. So far I am very pleased, as I just finished backing up my 16 GB iTunes library in about 20 minutes. It's small enough to store in my laptop bag with my MacBook, or to carry in my purse. I love that it is compatible with my Mac, and as usual there was no problem just plugging it in and using it. The only minor annoyance I have with it is that the light never shuts off to indicate that it is safe to remove it, but I have read other reviews that say this is normal. The light flashes when data is being transferred and just stays lit when it's done. I even dropped it by accident when it was plugged in to my computer and nothing happened when it was disconnected except that I got an error message on my computer that it was improperly ejected. No data was lost. Overall an excellent purchase and I would recommend it.Customer Review: Quite portable external hard drive

I purchased the Western Digital 250GB hard drive solely to store pictures that had begun to over extend my laptops. Simply put, this hard drive is extremely portable (about the size of a small book), and extremely easy to use. You literally plug in the USB and start transferring the items from your PC to the hard drive. The software is already stored within the hard drive so it doesn't come with any disks to load or anything to configure. Also might want to point out it's not really 250GB, more like 240 something because of the software already stored on the device.
The only downside I can see with this hard drive is that the outside is a glossy color, so over time I imagine it would easily be scratched.
I would recommend this item to laptop owners who travel a lot or photographers who tend to run out of room to store their photos.

Works with my PCs and Macbook. (Make sure you are using the correct USB plug on your Mac laptop. Not all of the USB outlets in Mac laptops have sufficient power to drive an external drive. Read the manual to find which is which).
No review for the included software. Since most of my experience with softwares that comes with products like camera, external drives are rarely satisfactory, software was not installed in the first place.
Pros:

- No need for a power brick. It is powered by the USB 2.
- So quiet, Just like an Ipod.

After asking friends about what storage devices they had and their experiences with them, I also reviewed numerous brands on different sites. I found the best price here so I ordered 3 (1 for me and 2 for my college-aged daughters).
So I could keep them a secret prior to Christmas I wanted to have them delivered to my office address. But I was concerned that I needed them to be delivered prior to our office closing for the holiday break. I gambled and requested just regular shipping, not the faster methods.
Even with using just regular shipping they were delivered within about 4-5 days (well ahead of the predicted arrival date). Very happy with the price and service. Haven't had enough experience with the actual product yet but so far so good.

I bought this drive for $100 on sale at Fry's Electronics and I've had it for a month now. I originally bought it to use with my PowerBook G4, PS3, and Desktop PC. It worked great on the desktop and PS3 (extremely quiet, relatively fast transfers, small and portable) but use with the PowerBook was not as great. But saying that, it is not a problem with the drive. Rather, the PowerBook does not have enough power in the USB port to get the drive running. Otherwise though, this is the perfect external hard drive for someone on the go at a great price.
Side Note: The casing is very glossy which reflects scratches and smudges but a plastic protector or a case sold separately could easily prevent that.
