Got a new HD set and Tivo HD just before the Olympics. Realized that only 20 hours of HD would not catch all the action. For just a few bucks, I was able to get up to 80+ hours of HD and more SD TV than anyone could ever watch. I hate having to manage space on the Tivo, and with this device, you don't have to.
Installation was dead simple. Follow the instructions, plug things in in the right order and is just works. Once installed, you can't remove it without losing all your recordings, but that is a fair compromise.

Worked great to vastly expand the recording capacity on the TIVO HD. No more fights about "Save until I delete." Pretty much a plug and play add on. I have had it about six months without any problems. Based on some of the other reviews it may have a longevity issue, so make sure to check the vents now and then so it can stay 'cool'.
Previously, I have gone the route of adding hard drives 'within' other Tivos, but this was so much easier I would highly recommend this approach versus one involving a screwdriver.

Bought this over the holidays, wasn't sure about compatibility with my cable box because of what I read in other reviews. But it just works. Installation and set-up was a breeze. Later on, I needed to reboot the dvr/cable box due to some problem and the recordings on the DVR Expander were not deleted. I made sure that I followed the user guide about not disconnecting the DVR Expander before rebooting. My cable provider is Time Warner in NYC and my cable box/dvr is Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC running Mystro.Customer Review: Great expansion option

I paired a WDG1S5000VN 500GB My DVR Expander with a Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVR in order to have room for recording more of the 2008 Olympics without running out of storage space so quickly. I am very happy with the purchase. Instillation is very simple, unplug the power to the DVR, plug in the hard drive, and then plug the DVR back in and allow it to format the drive. The unit is small and attractive. I have only had the unit for two days but have not experienced any playback/recording problems since adding the drive.Customer Review: 5 Stars
The WD DVR expander added many hours to my day!!! I used to come home to watch all my dvr recordings...all night long!!!! Now I have time to have a life without worrying that I will not have enough time on my DVR to record my shows. No instructions were necessary to set up the DVR expander. Just make sure that you have the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD. Great product!!! I told my friends about the DVR expander and got them to buy it. They love it!!! I am recommending it to everyone!!!!
