Customer Review: Simple, easy, affordable, great investment
Summary: 5 Stars

This external eSATA drive is the perfect addition to any TiVo HD (Series 3) DVR. In my case, I added to a base-line 20 hr (HD) DVR to increase recording capacity to 91 Hrs (HD) / 810 Hrs (Standard Def). Your TiVo HD's system software must be running version 9.2 or greater (I think the current SW version TiVo pushes out today is 11.1), so all you need to do is connect to TiVo's service to "force" the software upgrade. Once done (and this assumes your TiVo HD requires the upgrade in the first place) you simply connect the eSATA external drive to your TiVo HD's eSATA port (with the supplied eSATA cable) and then instruct your TiVo HD to set-up the external drive (simply follow the on-screen instructions).

It does not get any simpler than that.

Customer Review: Time-saver indeed! Works w/ Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR w/ Passport
Summary: 5 Stars

Despite doing an in-depth research, I still felt I was taking a huge gamble. The Passport version of Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR I have has been reviewed as not being easily compatible with this device. But there's an easy workaround for it (the instructions, if I remember correctly, has you turning both devices off before connecting them. But if you keep them on, connect, go thru the menu, then unplug them both before plugging them back on).

I now do not feel as if I need to watch a certain amount shows with restricted time. I now can watch an entire season in one shot. I have an insanely amount of HD movies/shows that was previously taking up too much space before the DVR expander. I have only had it now for about 2 months.

Customer Review: Works Great, No Problems
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product last August and it installed on my Tivo HD without any problems. Immediately my storage was extended for HD recordings. My Tivo's Hard Drive had to be replaced and I purchased a replacement from Weakee's and installed it today. I was kind of worried if I would have any problem reinstalling the storage unit to work with my new drive. After going through the Tivo Guided Installion, I reconnected the drive per WD instructions and it instantly was recognized. No problems what so ever. When I originally bought the unit from Amazon, it was being sold for $144, now it is listed as selling for $119. You can't go wrong with this purchase. No more worrying about running out of room for all the HD programs.

Customer Review: Simple way to expand recording capacity of DVR
Summary: 5 Stars

I have this attached to a Scientific Atlanta DVR. Installation was pretty much plug and play. Plug it in, reboot the DVR, and the DVR recognized the WD drive immediately. Very simple and easy to follow instructions were included for both Scientific Atlanta DVRs and TIVO. I previously had a do-it-yourself setup using a Seagate external SATA drive, which took a few more steps to get working (especially since it wasn't formatted for use with a DVR and there were no instructions of any kind). In contrast, this install was super simple. The drive has been operational for about 3 weeks, and we have had no issues. Drive is quiet does its job well so far. I would recommend this product to others.

Customer Review: Installs and Works
Summary: 5 Stars

Read about it 10 days ago, sounded like the perfect product that I could not justify not having at around $200. Quick Western Digital order and delivery. Came home an hour early to install. Out of the box, a few plugs in a particular order, and turn stuff on. The Cablevision box acted funny and I thought that this would be a bust. Re-connected and connected 3 times with no apparant luck.

Went out for dinner .When I got home--2 -3 hours later, the DVR was running. The time already recorded on the Cablevision DVR had gone from 79% to 18%--Perfection.Compatible with Cablevision Scientific American hd digitial recorder. Need it when you want to record in HD.
