What a great product. Worked exactly as it should on first attempt. File transfers and retrieval are fast - can not distinguish from the hard drive. My requirements were for added storage space and not automatic backups, thus, this serves exactly the purpose, and at a fantastic price. I purchased this 500GB external HD even after reading the comments about the reliability issues. I must say I have been pleased with it. The drive is quiet and the Plug and Play function worked perfectly. It looks good and is very unobrusive.
If the drive fails or has any problems, I'll add an addendum on this review. But..... so far, so good. Having an extra half Terabyte really rocks!

For anyone who is looking for a hard drive to back up files or just store files on an external hard drive, this hard drive will do the trick. USB 2.0 is widely used now, and therefore a single interface hard drive is enough for most consumers. It's very quiet and it doesn't take up that much space on the desk since it stands upright. It also turns on and off with the computer, which is handy.Customer Review: works well for me

I have 3 of these now all purchased at different times, the last one over 6 months ago. All 3 have been working fine. They are quiet enough and I like the fact that they turn themselves off with the PC. The price is right too.
You need to remember that all your important data should be stored in more than one place. This applies no matter what storage device you are using.

I've had this computer for a year and a half so far to backup my laptop and keep my work files and to keep my music and photos so I hope it never fails!
It has worked great and quickly for me all this time. I did have one panic when my computer stopped recognizing when I plugged it in---but this was fixed by unplugging everything and replugging it in again.
