Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDG1U5000Customer Review: Works as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
The produce srrived in an timely manner and there were no problems with insallation...apply power and plug it into a USB port and it is ready to use if you want to use FAT32. Reformating is a nuisanse, but the directions are clear via the WD website that the directions point you to.
I hsve been using the drive every day for about a month now without problems. I also have a My Book premium. This drive does not offer as much eye candy on the front display as the premium, but it is only eye candy to me.
Customer Review: So easy to use. It becomes invisible. Summary: 5 Stars
Bravo Seagate. This is a great drive. No frills, no software, just the things I need: reliability, ease of use, smart design. Who needs a power switch? It automatically turns itself off when the computer shuts down. And the orange pulsing strip is really cool and soothing. Small footprint and stays cool to the touch, even when moving 43 gigs of data. SyncBack automatically synchronizes my music folder, so I don't ever have to do anything! It's simple and it just works. And that's all I can ask of it.
Customer Review: Durable, reliable, reasonably fast, cheap -- good bargain Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this HDD for about 3.5 years now, and have had no problems with it at all. It's durable (I've been carrying it around it backpacks and riding bicycles with it, etc.), reliable, and reasonably fast for data transfer to/from another drive (although moving files on the drive itself is a bit slow).
There are of course, larger faster smaller drives out there, but this one is a good bargain -- if this one meets your requirements, I think you'll be satisfied for the price.
Customer Review: Western Digital WDG1U5000 My Book Essential Edition 500 GB Hard Drive Summary: 5 Stars
For now no problems with storage space. Would have been nice to have a manual included and some recommendations how to best format it. Instead they give a link to a website which at the time I couldn't access. So I divided the space in 5 partitions which gives a problem when a power fluctuation occurs since then it gives my partitions different drive letters which of course is a bit of a nuisance to reset. Still 5 stars since it is a great product despite the drive letter problem.
Customer Review: Great Quality Summary: 5 Stars
Western Digital knows how to build a solid hard drive. They offer a great value of hard drive space per dollar, but dont' sacrifice on quality, and offer some neat features. It's a beautiful case, super quiet and hasn't overheated for me even in my trials by fire. The auto-power feauture works just like you would dream, and should be standard on all drives. If you're seriously considering buying a hard drive, then this is the one for you. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
