My college-age son recommended this - he already had an earlier version. No suprises - holds plenty of info, including back ups of my son's backups... He took care of partitioning with some FAT and some NTFS sections, the later preferred by Windows OneCare (which is another story altogether and now uninstalled!) It is very quiet - unlike an earlier backup drive that sounded like an airplane taking off. With this one I never even notice it's there. Looks good, works good -- go for it!Customer Review: great product

just plug in and use. i did reformat it to mac filing system because after i fist copied some things to it, it showed they weren't there. they came back but Mac's system always works better on a mac. after that 2 minuets of work it worked perfect. its quiet and stylish on a desk. WD is always great because its reliable, and you know it will last. it's worth getting this one over other brands. it's probably the best looking of an external hard drive and it is a quality piece of hardware.Customer Review: Best External Hard Drive!!

I absolutely love this drive. Besides the easy-to-use features and set-up, the laptop has no problem recognizing the drive every time is connected. It goes into power saving mode when not in use. I have even step on it and knocked down the thing.. and its still working properly, which is amazing considering how delicate those external hard drives are.
I got this on sale during amazon's 10 days of Christmas for $88 something. And i am completely satisfied with the purchase.

Bought this back in 08 I believe. I use it on my Imac and haven't had trouble with it at all.
I've used it to back up data twice, I've reformatted it numerous times and it still runs in perfect condition, as it should.
In reading other reviews I've come to one conclusion. YES. This works perfect for some, but as you can see others have had malfunctions. So for your most valuable documents make sure you double backup with another external HD.

I'm a photographer (digital), I got 2 of these to back up my photos and business stuff, works great. I use one as my working external, the other exists solely as a backup to the first. I use Acronis software to automate my backups nightly, and also backup my entire system to a 3rd drive. I don't really know what there is to say though, drives work until they don't. So, it's great right now, set them up and forgot about them.
