Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital My Book Essential 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive

Customer Review: Great product!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to clear some space on my 3 year-old iBook, as well as to backup important files from law school. It's a fantastic product and so far I'm very pleased with it! It's quiet, it has a ton of space, it's easy to use, it's easy to set up, and it's works very well. I'm happy with how reliable it seems and has been so far. No problems at all. It does take a little bit to load, but not very long. Overall, I'm very glad that I bought this Western Digital product. I was confused about which external harddrive to buy, and I'm glad I got this one!

Customer Review: External hard drive - Western Digital 500 GB
Summary: 5 Stars

About a month ago I purchased my second 500 GB external hard drive by Western Digital. The most recent is a My Book Essential 2.0.
These are small, attractive drives that stand upright like a book and take very little real estate. They are very quiet and connect via a USB cable with no effort. They do have a separate power supply.
They are fast to access data or have a backup performed. It goes without saying that I would buy another and recommend them to any user - the price is competitive and the quality is outstanding.

Customer Review: Simple Effective Convenient
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this unit to store the music that I rip since my IT advisor told me that I was swallowing up almost all of my laptop's hard drive with the music. This is simple to set up and use. It's portable and convenient although truly not designed to be the external hard drive that you haul along. This is more for sitting on the desk proving that extra storage space you need. Word of warning - do not set the automatic back up to show you its progress as that stops/interrupts what you're doing so typing something becomes problemmatic.

Customer Review: Reliable & Affordable
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a very affordable drive. It was under $130 when I bought it. Has lasted over 9 months with no problems. Very cool to the touch and quiet operation. Seems as fast as my other external drive, which is a Seagate, and is a little faster when I transfer data to it than from it. The feature that allows the drive to power down if not in use or if the computer shuts down is useful as it saves me money on energy bills and I don't have to worry about over-heating from continuous weeks of use. Good drive overall and very affordable.

Customer Review: Great Storage !
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a really good external storage device for me. I plugged in the power and then the USB cable. Came up on my Vista promptly as a drive. I then copied about 200MB of pictures and music. With my Intel quad computer, it didn't take long to complete. It looks nice setting on my shelf above the computer, I will be getting another one for backup also. I have some 13,000 High Quality family photos from as far back as 1920, that I have digitized. I will have them on several backup drives now.
