Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I had absolutely no problems when I received this device. It came with the hard drive unit, power adapter, SATA and USB cables plus a USB to the smaller camera/camcorder type USB connection. The device is about the size of a very thick but small paperback. Unpacking was a snap.
First I plugged it into power then connected it to my computer via USB. In no time at all it was recognized by both a Windows 7 and an XP computer. I immediately copied about 700 Gigabytes of video to the device. I didn't time it exactly because I did it in chunks but it took about ten hours to copy the videos. Keep in mind that is 700 Gigabytes which is equivalent to roughly 100 movies/videos. I expected it to actually be a bit longer.
The biggest test was whether it would work with my video player as it wasn't listed. I have the brite-View CinemaTube which I currently don't recommend. However, it has a USB connection. I hooked up the My Book AV DVR Expander and it worked like it was meant to be!
The device is very quiet, in fact, it is currently less then a foot from my ear and I don't notice it. It also has a tiny little light in front which is noticeable so that you can see that it is on but not so much to be distracting.
There are only a few complaints I have, if you want to call them that. One is a remote or a way to use a universal remote to turn it on or off since it will be the only device I would have to get up and turn on/off (not that I am lazy but...). The on/off switch is in back but easy to use. Also, there is nothing on the website except a copy of the manual in PDF, of course. Not really important since I had no problems but I have no idea what support will be like if I need it. For portability a case would have been nice too.
Since none of my computers have eSATA (external connections) I haven't tried it. But all of my computers have USB and it works fine. It could also serve as a backup device.
I am very happy with this device. 1 TB of video (or music too) that I can easily take with me and plug into any computer or most players.
