Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital 320GB Scorpio Blue SATAII 5400RPM 2.5IN 8MB Bulk/OEM Hard Drive WD3200BEVTCustomer Review: So Good I Bought It Twice Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a hard drive to replace the 160gb one in my laptop that died from the heat.
The Western Digital Scorpio Blue met my requirements:
1) Price - the 320gb was within a few bucks of the 160gb. No brainer to get the bigger one.
2) SATA II/3.0gb - even though my older drive was only SATA I, the Scorpio is backwards compatible.
3) Less heat - the lower power consumption of the newer hard drives like this one means less heat which killed the old one.
4) Warranty - Western Digital (WD) has an easy RMA process. If this hard drive craps out in the next 3 years I can get another one from WD no problem.
The Scorpio Blue installed without a hitch has been running happily in my laptop since I got it. When the hard drive died in my sister's laptop a few weeks later I knew what to buy again !!
Customer Review: Great for a PS3 upgrade Summary: 5 Stars
I just updated my 60 gig PS3 and just as a lot of people said, it's really easy. Just be careful with those small screws as they are really tight and a bit delicate.
Before I switched to this new 320 gig HD, I was worried the system backup option on the PS3 wouldn't transfer everything I had on the old one. According to a friend that did it recently, copy protected files like Street Fighter IV didn't copy over. I was also worried about PS1 and PS2 memory cards. But it seems with the latest update, as of now 3.15, backup keeps absolutely everything. I didn't even have to re-install my games or re-download any demos!
I was looking all over the internet to see how backup works but not even the official Sony site has all the information. I hope this review will help those wondering about protected files and PS1/PS2 saves.
Customer Review: Big drive at big savings Summary: 5 Stars
So I originally bought this hard drive at local big box retailer with blue and yellow logos for almost $50 more than I paid from Amazon after I returned the first one. I used that savings to purchase the Apricorn EZ-UP-UNIVERSAL EZ Upgrade Universal Hard Drive Upgrade Kit, which allowed me to clone my old 80gb hard drive to this new 320gb hard drive without having to pay a local technician $75-$100 just to move the software. If you want to upgrade your laptop hard drive you'll need some way to connect it to the old one and instead of paying someone to do it, just use the upgrade kit. I'm thrilled with my new hard drive since the old one was slowing down as it reached its limit. It is quiet and easy to install, so I'd highly recommend it.
Customer Review: Perfect upgrade for my PS3 Summary: 5 Stars
Like many reviewers listed here, I purchased this HDD to upgrade my 40gb PS3. I've never done any surgery on a computer or gaming console, so I was a little worried I might have some trouble with it. Turns out it was an extremely simple process. Back up the files, take out the old hard drive, pop in this new one, follow the instructions on the screen and boom, I now have a monster of a PS3.
This HDD came packaged in a nice shock proof box and runs as smoothly as my old 40gb did. After it was formatted for the Playstation, I ended up with just under 300 gigs, with about 270 of those free to be used. A huge upgrade over the 37 available I previously had.
If you're looking to upgrade the HDD in your PS3 and don't want to pay more than $75, this is an outstanding option. I recommend it 100%.
Customer Review: $60, well worth it... Summary: 5 Stars
I replaced my hard drive in the Lenovo ThinkPad R61i, and this drive was a perfect replacement. Install is very simple, and for $60, the price is unbeatable. However, I do suggest combining the order with a drive cloning software. None of my backups restored properly on the new drive, thus requiring my purchase of the Apricorn EZ Upgrade Suite, an additional $40.
My stock hard drive was far too small for Windows Vista, at 80 Gb. 4X the size, for only $100 total, is quite worth it. And now I can use the old hard drive as a backup.
I have used the drive for a couple days now, and it is as quiet (if not more so) than my stock hard drive. It reads just as quickly as well. This upgrade is a MUST for Vista users with less than 100 Gb drive.
