Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Western Digital - 1Tb 7200 Rpm 16Mb Ext HddCustomer Review: Great Hard Drive, and price too! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm impressed with this external hard drive - it works great!
My previous drive failed and I was looking for something other than a Seagate Free Agent Pro because the Seagate model has the mini-USB connector that SNAPS OFF in the drive (not the Western Digital, it is fine, I had the problem with the Seagate model). Typically Seagate is fine - but not with their Free Agent Pro series. Check forums on the internet - you'll see others had the problem with the Seagate.
The Western Digital does not have this problem - and was a welcome relief considering my other external hard drive experience. I'd recommend this Western Digital drive to others. It is fast too.
Customer Review: More Room, More Time Summary: 5 Stars
I have had my computers for 2yrs and have filled the internal hard drives up to capacity. As soon as I saw the GREAT prices on Amazon I jumped all over the 1TB external hard drive.
This was awesome! It comes with 2 wires, a 2 prog ac cord and a mini USB to USB. Once I plugged everything in and installed the driver, cut/copy from my internal to my external was a breeze! I freed up tons of GB's and my computer was once again fast.
Western Digital did a good job on this one. It's Simple, easy and very affordable. Along with the nice blue led on the front the casing in my opinion is very attractive. I don't handle it so no finger prints for me on the shiny black case.
Customer Review: Lots of storage for a great price Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these to use with my Mac for TimeMachine backups. It has worked great. I will say that the first thing I did, as required by TimeMachine, was to discard the accompanying software and reformat the drive. I has been sold and much faster than I expected.
If I have one minor complaint at all, it is that the drive light is quite bright. I kind of illuminates the entire room where I have my computer. But, a very small thing.
I highly recommend this.
And, as always, don't just have one backup no matter how good you think it is! Best to combine an onsite solution like this with an off-site solution to make sure you are totally covered.
Customer Review: Good deal Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product when it was sold for under 200. You may be able to find better deals at the price it is at right now. However, for the price I paid I have no complaints. I don't think I realized how large one terabyte really is until I finished loading all my data on to the drive and saw that I still had more than half the drive available. This drive makes very little noise, just a few clicks here and there when scanning for data. It powers on and off with my PC, Macbook Pro, and PS3. It is easily and quickly recognized by all these devices, and has very good read/write speeds for an external usb drive. Like I said, I have no complaints, and that's all I could have asked for.
Customer Review: Good solid storage but no on-off switch Summary: 5 Stars
The only problem is that when I'm not using my external drives, I want to switch them off. I only use them for backup of my data, etc. And this unit does not have an on-off switch. My Maxtor one has it so I can keep it plugged into the power socket and keep it switched off when I'm not using it. For this one, I have taped the power connector the body of the drive and I plug it into the drive when I need to use the drive. So the cellotape is my on-off switch.
Works great. I don't use any of the provided software so no clue about that. Build solid - not flimsy. Doesn't use much space since it's like a book. Good 1 Terabyte storage for 100$!
