When I bought this hard drive, I had thoroughly read the reviews on amazon and was worried about having to get an external cord. I just wanted to say that when it arrived, I had no trouble connecting it to my laptop (IBM Thinkpad T series) without some sort of Y-cable cord. It has worked very well so far - I have backed up a few times and everything works perfectly.
I rate this product a '5' so far because it's small, light and works well. I have had no problems so far. I got a case for it from WD and it is the black hard case.

Performs as advertised and very reliable. Nice size and works well with my MacBook Pro. I use mine to store my I-tunes library, as I wanted to free up space on my notebook. Simply plug into the USB port, click I-tunes and there's the whole deal! Couldn't ask for more from this product. Was hesitant to purchase in the beginning, due to other reviews, but I had no problem with any of the 120 gb WD externals, so I went ahead and purchased this 160 gb. No problems whatsoever and I use the longer cord from my older WD 120 gb externals.Customer Review: Never been a problem

the hard drive is pretty awesome. i use it for storing some of my movies and other media, especially when i go on the road. i just plug it in to my laptop and have a plethora of movies to watch. one thing i want to note is the the usb must be plugged into a usb 2.0 or it requires additional power. also, the usb cord that comes with this is very short, so its good to have it sit right next to your computer. just for those with an xbox 360, the ports in the front of that are NOT usb 2.0 and therefore will not power the hard drive.Customer Review: very small portable and fast HD

I just bought this HD and it's pretty neat! I use it with an Apple macbook and it works just fine I am using it to store all my music and photos so I dont have a crowded laptop. This is very recomended if you guys like to take your computer to the go.. anywhere so you external HD should be small and very light... if that is the case this is your product... although if you want more space for a better price you should pick other brands with more storage but they are more bulky. I bought this hard drive with some uncertainty about whether or not it would have enough power to work with my macbooks usb ports. It turned out to work completely fine and has worked great with several other computers as well. I would recommend this to anyone seeking an extremely portable (about 2*3*.5 inches) and good looking hard drive. I personally use the drive to store my itunes library, but it could also be used as a back up drive, or an additional storage location for media.
