Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Passport Essential 2.5" 320GB USB Hard DriveCustomer Review: Love it Summary: 5 Stars
I use this little wonder to keep my desktop and laptop computers backed up. Here is what I like about it: First, it gets its power from the USB cable that connects it to a computer--there is no power brick required. That's very convenient, and the USB ports on both of my computers provide plenty of power to run the drive (an issue with some other drives). Second, it acts like a normal Windows hard drive--no special software is required to format it, and no special drivers are required to use it. Third, it is very compact--I store mine in a small Case Logic case that Amazon sells to go with the drive. No hesitation recommending this product to a friend.
Customer Review: Pretty good. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this hard drive to store a large amount of digital media. I wanted something small, that would look good on my desk. Do yourself a favor and reformat the file system to ntfs immediately. I did not find a need to do this until I already had about 200 gigs stored on the drive. I converted the drive to save myself from another time consuming backup, this worked well, the transfer rate remains decent. Overall this is a very good product for the price. In retrospect, I may have bought a larger model 1tb drive because I underestimated the amount of storage that I needed. For now I will be more selective about which files I will keep in my library.
Customer Review: Great little Drive Summary: 5 Stars
If you are looking at this drive, look at all the good ratings and ignore the whiners that either don't know how to use the drive, or are expecting more than it was designed for. It's Small, it's compact, doesn't need a power cord and works with most computers equipped with a USB port. What more can you ask? My thinking is that if you buy this drive and are going to throw it around and mistreat it, or you want the speed of a an internal drive, than you aren't going to be happy. For anyone else looking for a nice USB drive, this one works great. I have to wonder if the people that whined about it being slow were plugged into a USB 1.0 or USB 1.0 Hub.
Customer Review: Computer Saver and a Very Durable One Summary: 5 Stars
Last year my hard drive crashed but part of it was definitely my fault. Before it went under it ran super slow due to all the music I had previously stored on it. I foolishly backed up my tunes on the same drive which made it run all the slower. I picked this model up recently from a big box store for about the same price that it can be bought here used. It was a great buy. I now store all of my music on it and can even take it to work with me if I feel like it. Lastly, it is very durable and I know this to be the case because it's fallen off the top of my CPU about 10 times. I've had no issues thus far and think the price is very competitive.
Customer Review: Great piece of gear Summary: 5 Stars
I got this hard drive because I was using at least 6 DVDs to backup frequently. I use my computer for music, photos, and a ton of schoolwork. I would be devastated if I lost all my data. My computer would not let me back up to a flash drive, so on to a hard drive I went. After reading hundreds of customer reviews, I decided to go with the WD My Passport. I received it, formatted it, and used it right away. I've had it over a month now and am very pleased. I back up my I tunes and my computer in separate folders, as well as copy and paste other files onto the drive. It holds everything I need with plenty of extra room. This was a great buy.
