As I was taking this drive out of the packaging, my hand slipped and guess what... crashing down to the tile floor it went! I wasn't even able to scoop it up with my foot as I've done before in such cases, and it crashed into the floor with the kind of sound that usually tells you it's time to go fetch a broom and a scoop. Well, after uttering some words that I can't repeat here, I picked up and examined the drive, and all I could see was a single very faint scuff mark on its shiny housing. Plugged it in, and it worked... purr-fectly. Talking about "purring", you can hardly hear this drive in operation. Only by getting within about 20 cm of it can any noise be detected. No vibration, barely any heating up... I think WD has a winner here.Customer Review: Would recommend this product to anyone.

I bought this portable hard drive more than a month ago. I opened its box, plugged it in into my Toshiba laptop (about 2 years old) and everything worked just fine. Personally I didn't use any of the WD utilities (as I am not using the Drive as a backup, but rather as a primary or secondary storage) and I formatted the drive using NTFS (originally it's using the FAT32 file system, but since I am using Windows right now there was no point keeping it in FAT32).
It's very very light, it makes absolutely no noise, the design is very attractive (although its surface does attract dust) and the transfer speed is simply satisfying. Overall it's a very good product that's worth its value.

So for years I had this ancient external hard drive that was incredibly loud, and took up gallons of space. When it started dying, I went over all the options for portable drives, and came up with this one as the best option.
Pros: silent, tiny, portable, cute.
Cons: ... the casing is a bit smudgy?
Really, I haven't run into any cons yet. It's fast, it's silent, and it's highly portable. Not having to plug it into an external power source is a huge bonus for me. For the amount of space and the portability, it's a great deal.
I can't comment on the included syncing program - preferring to control my files manually, I haven't touched it.

Since I started to have problems with my comp and wanted to restore it, I bought this external hard disc to save 100G of my files. Works great, fast, no problems so far. I suggest it to everyone as a back up unit for your files. You don't realize how much stuff (music, videos, pics) you have and could possibly lose (luckily I still could run safe mode) and burning DVD's is not option for me anymore.
Also, big thanks to Amazom. My first delivery was on time and signed by our office (I live in apartment) but later I found out the office was closed that day. I contacted Amazon and they send another without any hussle. I will be definitely using Amazon for my future shopping.

I purchased this drive about a month ago. The first one delivered was defective, but Amazon made the return process as painless as possible, sending out a new My Passport drive immediately, and waiting for the defective one to be shipped back by me.
Once they received the defective drive, Amazon sent me a confirmation e-mail. All online purchases should be this competent and easy!
The second 320 GB drive has worked wonderfully, serving as a backup drive for all of my important files. It is very quick and absolutely quiet, noticeably quicker than my older My Passport drive (40 GBs). I can wholeheartedly recommend Amazon and this drive to anyone.
