Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Passport Essential 2.5" 320GB USB Hard Drive

Customer Review: Great HD fits in back of pocket
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used the Passport Essential for a few weeks now, using it to back-up documents, music, pictures, and videos. I've been very happy with the product because of the following aspects:

Size/Portability--the drive is small enough to fit in a shirt or back pocket, really easy to carry around and durable enough to be tossed in my luggage.

Ease of Set-up--I'm not the most computer savvy, but all I needed to do was connect the drive to the USB port and the program booted up automatically. WD offers a program called MySync which allows you to pick what you want to back-up, including email. You can pick what you want to back up pretty easily and be able to port that onto other computers.

Style--simple and sleek, it fits in nicely with just about anything.

Customer Review: Portable, convenient, and silent
Summary: 5 Stars

After thorough research, this is the portable external hard drive that I decided on. I'm confident that I made the right decision. The Passport is small enough to fit into my pocket (men's pants pockets, of course, tend to be larger than women's), yet large enough to hold my Time Machine backups, movies, and Seinfeld episodes. I love the simplicity of having only one cable and no buttons or switches. The drive I was using before was a 500gb Iomega, the one that Apple started selling cheaply after Leopard came out. I got what I payed for: excessive heat and noise. I have to hold my ear up to the Passport to hear its tiny whir. It does get warm if left on for long enough, but nothing like my other drive. My only complaint is that the case feels a little bit flimsy around the sides.

Customer Review: amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

One day my friend got a new hard drive for his MacBook and after installing it we had no way to get the data off his old drive. But after some quick thinking we decided to take my own 320 gb Western Digital Passport apart and stick in his old drive so that we could get the data off it. By taking it apart, we got a look at just how high the build quality is--The outer casing is purposefully built "bent" so that it snugs up against the middle section better. The hard drive is in a metal sled which is suspended in the center of the enclosure by rubber form fitting attachments. The whole thing just feels upliftingly sturdy and elegant and makes me feel very confident about the safety of my files. I give it a five out of five stars because it is clearly a fine piece of equipment.

Customer Review: A Fantastic Little Hard Drive with Lots of Space!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this 320GB hard drive specifically to swap out the drive with the one in my HP laptop (dv6000)(200GB). After watching a few YouTube videos and fiddling with the darn difficult-to-open case on the Passport, I was happily chugging along with way more space on my laptop! The new drive is much quieter, faster, and bigger than the stock HP Drive. I can definitely say I'm a happy camper!

I've now put my HP Drive into the Passport enclosure to have a nice and sleek little 200GB portable bus-powered drive! Find the best price and get one today, you won't regret it. =)

Now if they'd only start pumping out 1TB 2.5" drives then I'd be REALLY excited. (Of course that'll probably happen by the time some of you are reading this, so fingers-crossed!)

Customer Review: Good Product at a Good Price
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have been using computers for a number of years it is almost hard to believe that you can get this much memory in such a small package. I have another 250GB external hard drive that I use for backup but it is huge by comparison and requires it's own power supply. I wanted something I could take on the road. This unit does the job nicely. I don't have a problem with the transfer rate... any large backup will take some time.

I have my main (tower) computer, my older unit as a backup system and my notebook to take on the road. This USB drive will work for all 3 to transfer data between systems and to backup my important files. I added the Case Logic PHDC-1 case which I also recommend, especially if you plan to take this unit on the road.
