Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Passport Essential 2.5" 320GB USB Hard DriveCustomer Review: Just what I needed Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 6th external hard drive I have purchased in 2 years and so far the best invesment I have made in terms of physical size vs. drive size. I paid 150$ for this 320GB model. The plug n' play is a snap and being USB powered reduces a lot of the headache that comes with the power adapter required hard drives. Even with my large music and movie collection this drive provides enough space and then some (298GB formatted).
It's pretty fast for my needs (itunes library). I am running a Macbook Pro (1G).
I'm selling my other external hard drives seeing as I am trying to streamline my workstation and keep things simple and nice. Between the choice of 1 USB plug + and a small, lightweight drive versus a USB plug + power adapter + clunky drive, it's easy to make the decision.
Deep,

Customer Review: great hdd Summary: 5 Stars
When I received the Western Digital Hard Drive the plastic packaging came broken. It was odd since the card board box that it was in was intact which told me that probably the plastic was broken when the drive was packaged in the factory (I assume this from the way that it was broken since it was the plastic on the inside of the wrapping and you could see it broken right through without needing to open it and taking the driveo out). I immediately called the seller and they asked me if it had any type of physical damage, which it didnt, and suggested that I go ahead and test the drive to see if it had problems, if it did they assured me they would replace it. I opened it up and the drive is fine, it works Ok. I ran some scans on it and they all showed up Ok, so i finally kept it. Its fast and portable which is what i was looking for.
Customer Review: Great value, finally a single-cable USB drive that works! Summary: 5 Stars
Do the math - for the price of a 32g flash, you get 320g of storage. Plus, this is the first USB-powered drive you may ever see that operates entirely off a single USB connection. There's no power brick, no second USB cable for extra current, and no current overuse damaging your computer. This is the real deal!
This would be the ultimate accessory for your portable Mac for Time Machine backups. For those of you who watch free video collected on the 'net, this is great for transporting TV and movies between your main PC and a cheap old box or a laptop hooked up to your TV.
Performance is a little light - I get about 15 megabytes per second. But this is plenty for playing back movies, running incremental backups and transporting files between machines. You can do your video editing on your built-in drive. :)
Customer Review: Excellent portable drive Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a slim, portable drive to store a large collection of digital pictures for use in a hobby-related website. The MY PASSPORT is a perfect size if portability is important to you. I knew I would want to be able to plug up to different computers, so a desktop model seemed too cumbersome. The drive is light by well built, thin but no t so small that it will get lost or dropped. It comes loaded with some proprietary software I could do without, but a quick delete took care of that. I use Mac and PC platforms, and it moves seamlessly between the two. And for its diminuative size and lack of AC power (it is USB powered), transfer times in large movements of files is pretty good. Of course, bigger desktop models will work faster, but for a portable drive it hums along.
In short, I'm pleased with the purchase.
Customer Review: Lightning fast!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Western Digital Passport is so tiny, book-shaped with a sleek shiny black finish (it also comes in red and blue), much like the iPod of old. However, beware as this also attracts smudges and scratches so you might want to get a case for it. It is incredibly attractive, and the tiny USB symbol on the side lights up nicely when connected and in use. Size-wise, it's just a bit larger than an iPod but amazingly light weight!
At 320GB, it is more than enough for my music collection (which I got it for) for now. Transfer speeds are quite fast, I backed up 161GB of music in about 5 hours.
It comes with pre-installed software which enables you to back up the entire contents of your computer hard drive. Unfortunately for Mac users, this works for PCs only. I also love the very low price. Worth every penny!
