Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8-Inch Pen TabletCustomer Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
Great item, well made! It's a thick sturdy slab of what appears to be abs plastic which house the electronics inside. Somehow this thing detects pen tilt, pressure, and button clicks through the wonder of magnetics. How it does it, I have no clue. The pen itself has a nib, a rocker switch which can emulate 2 buttons, and an 'eraser'.
The install was snap. If you get problems with weird behaviour, uninstall any specialty software that comes with your mouse ( Such as AOpen's gaming center ). This gave me a few headaches till I found the problem.
The Wacom tablet manager makes customizing a snap. Just bring up the manager, and start the program you want customize mappings in. You can then test out changing systemwide defaults, or 'add' a running program to the manager, and customize settings just for that program. This makes it awesome to use in Silo3D.
One minor niggle, is be sure to doublecheck the box when done. I almost missed and threw away the extra nibs as they fell out of the Wacom pen packaging and into the box. The box comes with 1 felt nib ( pencil feel ), 4 replacement plastic nibs ( my least favorite ), and a 'brush' nib which has a internal spring and is silky smooth. It's easy to replace the nibs by gently gripping them with tweezers, and pulling them, and pushing another nib in.
The tablet and pen itself take some getting used to, as you draw on the tablet, but have to watch the screen. However, after doodling, I was turning out 'pencil' sketches in Corel Painter essentials.
One note, if you are planning on buying Photoshop, or Corel Painter, buy a WACOM first!
The Painter Essentials and Photoshop Elements software bundled with the tablet are eligible for the upgrade price for upgrading to the full versions!
So for the price of straight out buying Painter or Photoshop, you can get a Wacom, and then pay for the upgrade. This is the true bargin.
Customer Review: wacom Table Intros 3 Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this Wacom Tablet. I orginally purchased this tablet to use with my Photoshop Elements software, which I found difficult to use all of the features correctly and knew that a tablet would solve most of my problems. I have had my Wacom Intuos 3 table for about three weeks now and I am so impressed with the features. For someone like me who sits on the bed with the laptop on my very small adjustable desk this is perfect. I have everything I need on the Wacom table (the keyboard, mouse, etc.) and I no longer need to reach for my laptop in uncomfortable positions and I no longer have to worry about getting muscle aches because my Wacom sits easily in my lap and allows me to do everything from this position. I have the 6x8, since this size is recommended for people using a laptop screen of average size or a desktop with an average screen. I was going to try to get the 12x12 because I like space, but that size is for someone using an LCD screen that is about 40 inches. Since I don't plan on using this Wacom with my television, this size is perfect for me.
I also like the feature that allows me to handwrite on the tablet and it automatically transforms it into written text. This feature is good for note taking college students. Each day I find a new feature, so overall I am very pleased with this purchase and it provides hours of fun.
Also I should note that it comes with Photoshop Elements 6.0, and two other applications that I have not had much time to use yet.
When I first got this tablet, I went immediately to [...] to download the latest software for this tablet, as this was recommended by another reviewer who had problems. I am glad that I did go to the site, because it had the latest version of software that was last updated in October of 2008. I read on the site that this latest update solves some software problems. I have not had any problems since having my Wacom tablet.
Customer Review: This tablet will spoil you Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned my Intuos 3 since 2005, and I can't believe I have not written a review for it sooner. I am an artist and a scientist, and this tablet has helped me so much in both areas of my life. It is perfect for touching up figures for a paper with Photoshop, as well as doing serious artwork in a program like Painter. The pressure sensitivity makes it feel even more like you're really drawing/painting. Looking at your screen and not your tablet to draw takes some getting used to, but it's a short adjustment period. 6X8 might seem like a small area to work with, but I assure you it's more than enough, at least when using a 19 inch widescreen monitor. The only drawback I have encountered with this tablet is that even with the pressure sensitivity, doing stippling or hatching/crosshatching work (which are common ways to illustrate scientific figures) is difficult. I'm sure with patience and messing with the brushes in Photoshop/Painter I could get it to look more "realistic", but it's still nice to use my Rapidograph set every once in a while. Other cool features: the tablet can be set up in both portrait or landscape mode; touchpads on the left and right can be used to scroll/zoom in and out;I recently got two monitors for my computer-with the push of one of the side buttons on the tablet, the surface of the tablet can be set up to correspond to monitor 1, monitor 2, or stretched over them both! Bottom line, I will never attempt to draw or outline anything on the computer using a mouse again. If using your mouse to work in Photoshop or Painter didn't feel like trying to draw with a brick before, it will after you get this tablet. This is one of the most useful pieces of hardware I have ever purchased for my PC. If you spend a considerable amount of time using photo/drawing programs, this tablet is well worth the investment.
Customer Review: Functional, light, easy to use--and the perfect upgrade for me. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this tablet to replace my old Intuos2 9x12 and I've been using it constantly since it arrived with no problems. Compared to my old tablet, the size is perfect--a great balance between conserving desk space and having a comfortable drawing area. There's also a marked improvement in responsiveness and the overall feel and quality. It's light and relatively small, so it'll definitely be easy to travel with.
I'm using it mostly for illustration and sometimes retouching photos for myself or my family and I really don't have any complaints so far. The one thing that might leave something to be desired is the mouse, though I'm using it regularly anyway. It feels a little flimsy, particuarly compared to the one that was paired with the Intuos2. However, the convenience of having a responsive, relatively good mouse without the cord and being able to switch back and forth between the stylus and mouse quickly is worth it.
I haven't had any problems with lag, though the mouse sometimes feels a little off. Drawing with the stylus is a breeze, and a relief after using a mouse for a while. The buttons are easy to program. I've had no problems at all with the included drivers, installation and use have been flawless.
I'd recommend this product to anyone looking for an easier way to create or touch up their art digitally, and especially to anyone looking to make the switch from traditional to digital media. I'd also say that if you don't absolutely need the bigger size, the 6x8 is perfect. Additionally, the difference in price compared to graphire line is worth it for the additional features. So I'd say unless you don't need the added features or you require a different size for the work you're doing, you can't go wrong this one.
Customer Review: Great Investment Summary: 5 Stars
If your serious about the fine arts or just minor detail in photoshop then this is a must.
1. Its capatible with PC and Mac so yeah
2. It replaces your mouse, ( this is enough of a reason right)
3. No lag from the moment you point your Wacom pen to the tablet. The cursor on the PC/Mac is spot on so no worries there.
4. Quick keys on the tablet help in keeping your fingers off the keyboard, unless you need to type.
5. 6x8 is the best size unless you have a wide screen monitor or would like to work on two, then go for the 6x11 or 9x12.
6. There are no negatives to this tablet if there are I have found none whatsoever.
7. Its super mobile and light and increadably tough, I have droped mine once or twice and there is no scratch or dent or chip on this bad boy.
8. I use Painter X for all you Painter people. There is only one solution to your 8 bit looking art, WACOM. Just draw like you would on a piece of drawing paper with the benifit of erasing as many times as you want without wasteing the quality of your art.
9. The pen has a nib for the drawing side and a plastic errr cap looking thing for the eraser, its simple really.
10. Um people I can realy go on and on but there is not enough time so I well try to update this as much as posible.
If your realy looking for any negative comments then well lets see, the plastic paper thing you draw on comes loose on one side sometimes but thats increadably minor and its a replacable piece on the tablet so yeah.
I have owned this tablet for one and a half months and bought it for $260 its a 6x8 by the way and its the size of a 12inch monitor laptop.
