I have two desktops, two laptops, four kids and thats just at home! I have some large databases that I maintain on several computers - all work flawlessly with this portable hard drive. I leave it in the trunk on a regular basis, toss it around, all kinds of abuse that should not happen. This is the fifth Western Digital portable hard drive I have bought. None have died, just been handed down, cuz I need more room.... :)
I think most of the major brands are pretty reliable, but the reviews, the warranty, and my personal experience lead me to recommend this model highly!

My g/f bought me the 250GB WD Passport drive as a Christmas gift. I had always wanted a portable 2.5" drive but hesitated because I wasn't sure which model/brand to get.
We use Macs and PCs in our home, but I primarily use a black Macbook as my daily driver. This little guy works great and I store all my data, music, and pictures (most-importantly). You wouldn't think it but 250GB gives you a lot of breathing room when you're backing up lots of data.
If you're a Macbook owner, or more specifically a black Macbook owner, this little drive complements the look of your machine quite nicely.

Light-weight, single USB cable for power and data transfer, LED to show activity and power, Slim-line. Great 250GB data size. Comes with compression software to work with the device to enable you to archive more than 250GB of data. You do not have to use the compression software, so you can choose: Compression only, normal and compression, or just normal. I do admit, that I treat this device like fragile glass, just as a precaution (and my biased against WD).
What more do you want? The only question "how does the cost and data size fit into your budget?"
Simply a great product.

Hey everyone- I know there have been some mixed reviews on this product, but let me speak from my experience and leave you to be the judge.
I've had two of these, only because I lost the first one. Up until now, both have served my purposes well. I am on a macbook pro, and I've never had any trouble with the disk registering on my desktop, and the USB connection is plenty fast enough for my periodic updating. I threw on my 50 gig music collection in an hour or so the other day, that's pretty good. I recommend this product. : )
Customer Review: Fantastic upgrade for any Intel-based Mac notebook

I purchased this drive to install in my MacBook Pro. I used a program called "SuperDuper" to image my internal drive to the WD Passport, which made a bootable copy of everything on my computer. I then took out the WD drive from the plastic case and installed it in my laptop. After replacing the old drive into the WD USB case, I had a great backup drive (for TimeMachine or whatever) for my system. I highly recommend this drive. Low cost, quiet operation, and < so far > no issues at all. Buy it now!
