Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of HARD DRIVE, 500GB MYBOOK COMBO EXTCustomer Review: All that matters: Reliable Summary: 5 Stars
Western Digital has the reputation for reliabilty. That's why over 3 years I've purchased five of their drives, approximately 1400 gigs total when formated. These drives are used for the most demanding task, video editing. All have been filled and refilled with footage, images, captions, music and voice.
Data lost to date: 0 kb.
If today the drives go down, I know I am way ahead of many of my companions who saved 20, 30 or 40 bucks and watched 20, 30 or 40 hours of work utterly vanish into the abyss of their cheap hard drives, over and over. The horror.
Customer Review: No trouble thus far Summary: 5 Stars
This hard drive is what I expected it to be; it comes with convenient to use backup software (though I don't really use it). There isn't much to say about it. It's a hard drive; it holds my data. :P
I haven't had any trouble with it thus far. Oh, and transfer rates going both ways are relatively fast, even over USB. It is recognized fairly quickly by my machine (WinXP Pro SP2). It's size makes it convenient and to take with you or fit on your desktop. It looks pretty sharp as well.
I've had this hard drive for about 2.5 months without any problems.
Customer Review: WD My Book Premium 500GB external HD - recommended Summary: 5 Stars
Western Digital My Book Premium 500 GB External Hard Drive with Dual Interface ( WDG1C5000N )This is the second of these drives I've bought. I picked up the first one six months ago, and it has worked flawlessly since then. No issues whatsoever. Runs quietly. The LED on the front is handy to let you know when the drive is being accessed. Double interface and simple exterior design. Used for artwork and lossless music files, in combination with a music server. Recommended.
Customer Review: Firewire and Mac, perfect Summary: 5 Stars
There are some really long write ups, so I will keep mine short and sweet.
I bought this to back up my iTunes and iPhotos via firewire.
Since my older Mac doesn't support USB 2.0 firewire was a must.
If I backed up my music and photos via USB 1.0 it would take over 24 hours.
I have owned this over a year. It has been reliable.
It does heat up and makes some high speed spinning sounds at times,
but nothing too unusual.
You should be able to buy with confidence.
So far, so good.
Customer Review: Mybook back up drive Summary: 5 Stars
I looked at this and the Terabyte model. I heard some bad things about the Terabyte model (noisy), so I went with the 500G model. I have been very pleased with it. It comes with pre-installed software. It installed like a breeze, and within a few minutes, I was able to back up my computers, and set them on a schedule for backing up important data. I had always said I should get a back up drive. But when my computer crashed, and I had to wipe out my hard drive, and start over, it sunk in. I really would reccomend this for anyone.
