I've telecommuted for ~7 years now and have a tendency to go through phones. Most home phones just aren't designed to be talked on for 8 hours non-stop (no exaggeration). I have a great cordless phone with a bluetooth headset, but it just can't make it through a full day of 2-3 hour conference calls or 8 hour phone sessions...however this speaker phone works great. The audio quality is as good as any you can buy for home use, the volume goes high enough to deafen you...and the wired headset is great.
This phone has given me further reasons to never go to my actual company provided office, having a functional hands free is essential and my employer is too cheap to buy one to go with the $800 desk phone that I never use.

I recently purchased 3 phones, the at&t 993, a panasonic kxts600, and panasonic kxts105 which has no caller id. They were all rated quite good, and are somewhat similar desk phones. The 993 comes with a dc power supply, and has 2 lines. The panasonics are battery powered. In my opinion the 993 is in a whole different league than the panasonics, as well as other phones that I own. It has far better sound quality, much faster operation, it has a larger easier to read screen, and it is a bit heavier so it just feels better. It does not have that annoying hollow sound that you get with the cheaper units. It is by far my phone of choice, a good value, and I just ordered another. I bought this phone because I wanted a corded phone with both speakerphone and headset capabilities, and this was one of the few out there.
This phone is better than I expected in speaker and receiver sound quality, as well as in key response. The LED is clear in dark and light environments, controls are convenient and logically placed, and I'm pleased to almost baffled by the key response. I am a very fast button pusher, and often keys don't respond as quickly as I press them. This phone is so responsive it almost feels as though it's responding before I press. Freaky. Anyway, good phone!

Works great! I've had bad luck with phones and after reading reviews of this one, I was ready to be disappointed. One main reasons I purchased it, is because I liked the fact that it comes with a power unit you plug into the wall, so it doesn't require batteries. The display works perfectly, the volume level is just fine. I like it. And the buttons - I love how easy it is to dial a number. I've had no problems with any of the features. I'm very happy with it and I like having something I can use even if the power goes out. I'd recommended it to others and would definitely buy another one.Customer Review: Excellent 2-Line Phone Value

I just received the AT&T 993 from Amazon. This phone is such a bargain for the price Amazon charges, I would buy three more if only the phone was available in white. (My wife would beat me if I bought any more black phones.) I just bought a Cortelco 2-Line WHITE phone for almost two and a half times as much. The AT&T is so much better, it's amazing. The Cortelco speaker phone is almost useless and the "back lit" display is barely illuminated. The AT&T does everything right and costs 40% as much. If you need a 2-line phone and you don't mind black, buy the 993. You won't be sorry.
