Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of VideoSecu Tilt TV Wall Mount for Most 32"-60" LCD LED Plasma TV Flat Screen, Sturdy Steel Wall Plate Free HDMI Cable and 6" Bubble Level M43Customer Review: Heavy Duty Capacity for a Budget Price Summary: 5 Stars
I got a 50" Plasma TV for Christmas 2010, and as I was mounting it on a wall with no need to swivel, I was interested in a sturdy tilting mount (tilting to reduce glare from incident light coming in from a picture window directly opposite the TV if we are sitting on the ground or on the couch or standing up). Obviously, plasma wasn't the best option because of the glare, but it was a present, and I haven't had issues with the glare because I can tilt the TV, change my seat, or shut the blinds.
But this review is about the VideoSecu TV mount, and for what it's worth, I think it's fantastic.
I got it for like $33 here on Amazon, and that saved me over 50% from any of the local stores like Wal Mart or Best Buy which wanted twice as much for a flimsier model, and even more for a comparable one. Neither Best Buy nor Wal Mart has one that I have noticed to be any more sturdy as a tilting wall mount. It comes with a hefty wall plate and a whole host of heavy duty hardware (lag screws, anchor bolts, lockwashers, etc) to fit pretty much any television. It mounted my 50" Panasonic Viera with no difficulty; there are slots instead of round holes so that when you are mounting the plate to wall studs, you can shift the plate to the best location and still be centered on two studs, whether your house was built with 16" spaced studs, or a custom 14" or something. I have mine cantilevered so that the mount is attached to two studs, but the TV is centered to the center of the wall. It is very securely anchored with lag screws.
The hanging mechanism is standard; it involves two hanging brackets attached to the back of the television, and these hangars hang off of an upturned lip on the wall plate. The bottom of each bracket is held in place with bolts behind a downturned lip. This ensures that the TV does not swing out if the TV is tilted downward.
The tilt mechanism is simple and is nicely engineered to make the wall mount as low-profile as possible for the given range of motion. Simply loosen the nut (simple to do... it's a nut with a sliding rod to give you leverage without taking up space...it's like the mechanism used to tighten shop vises) and then you can tilt the tv.
People have mocked the level that is attached to the wall plate in other posts. Mine worked fine, but I still used my own level, because the upper lip on the wall plate is the true hangar for the TV, and that is what ultimately needs to be level. But in my experience, my level laid across the top (hangar) lip was level when the level on the plate was level.
I wouldn't hesitate for a second to repurchase this item if I needed another one.
