Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Verbatim Shiny Silver DataLife Plus 8x DVD-R Spindle, 50 Discs

Customer Review: printable, but....
Summary: 3 Stars

I burned a few data discs without any problems. Now here's where I look stoopid. I bought these because they were advertised as 'printable' at the retailer's website. Then I discovered they are 'silkscreen' printable, not inkjet printable. Gotta say that they look pretty cool with inkjet graphics on them, but it rubs right off. Doh!

Customer Review: one of My boys bought Me this and.........
Summary: 3 Stars

These DVD R's are ok but not great. alot of them are ending up as cup coasters because of "disk errors" I think if this is going to happen I'll buy the even cheaper back of 100 by another company atleast then I dont feel so ripped off.

Customer Review: Inconsistent quality: some DOA, others burnt OK but unplayable after several months
Summary: 2 Stars

Out of a 50-spindle, I found five dead-on-arrival (DOA). My writing software quickly rejected them with an error message after a few seconds of burning. I found that if my writing software detected the blanks as "2x, 4x" or "2x, 4x, 6x" media, then I would have a greater chance of a coaster. Sometimes ejecting and reinserting the blank would cause the software to detect it correctly as "2x, 4x, 6x, 8x" media. All of the DOA's were toward the bottom of the spindle.

A few others that were successfully burnt and tested, became flaky after several months. My DVD player would refuse to play them initially. After a couple eject and reinsert cycles, the burned DVD would eventually play. It's not my player that's causing the trouble; inserting a pressed retail DVD would always spin up correctly.

I notice that unlike the Verbatim branded products, these lack a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" in the product description. Also, while the Verbatim branded products are at 16x, these have an "Up to 8x" disclaimer on the package label. It certainly looks like these disks are the ones that failed 16x quality control and then re-packed as a separate product line.

Customer Review: Disappointing
Summary: 2 Stars

After reading the reviews for these here they seemed like a good buy. People said they were reliable, and that's what I was looking for. Unfortunately, however, they have proven less than reliable. I have burned many dvds on my Mac using 3 different programs for 3 different purposes: data, DVD copying, and DVD making (home videos), and they fail about half the time. No joke. I thought I must be doing something wrong, but I can't figure it out if I am. All the settings are correct, and the computer is practically brand new. I burn cds in the same drive as well and have never had one fail. So, I can only conclude that there is something wrong with the disks. Maybe I just got a faulty batch, but needless to say, I will not be buying these again.

Customer Review: spotty quality
Summary: 2 Stars

I have had mixed results with these DVDs burning slideshows out of iDVD. Some come out fine but larger ones burn okay but do not play well on some DVD players and computers. Burning the same content on other media cleared up the problems. So I have to think the problems were with these DVDs.
