Blu-ray blank media is new enough, as of March 2011, that most of the media companies are still working out the kinks. If you scan the discussion forums, Verbatim is the one producing company that everyone swears by. You can find cheaper media, and for various technical reasons, these have different kinds of problems people are running into. Use these Verbatims, and you'll minimize the number of coasters you produce.
FWIW, I've successfully burned over 20,000 DVDRs, mostly single but about 10% double layer. In these cases I use any decent "brand" media with good results: TDK, Memorex, Sony, etc. (Most are Taiyo Yuden, but I prefer discs that have a thicker top writing surface than TY bulk spools.) In DVD media, a good price to pay is ~$20-22 cents apiece for quality brands, with "DVD+R" usually a little cheaper than "DVD-R", though there isn't any significant difference in burning results. Verbatim Blu-ray BD25s are about $2 apiece at this writing. BD50s are around $11 apiece... for that money, I'd wait a few months.
