Customer Review: Perhaps it's the SW

It may be the case that the SW is trying to burn too fast. I use Nero for burning, and every time I burn a DVD I have to tell it to burn at a slower speed than it picks. My guess is that the SW looks at the burner (not the medium) and tries to burn as fast as possible.
Since 2004 I've burned several hundred DVD's and, after a lot of losses with Memorex and other blanks, and a Lite-on burner (of which I'm obviously not so enamoured as are some other reviewers), I settled on a Pioneer burner (I use both an internal and a USB one)and Verbatim disks. (I remember using Verbatim 5-1/4" floppies years ago, that's why as soon as I found Verbatim disks I tried them. (And no, I have no financial or other interest in the company, except I hope they last a long time.)
As a rough statistic: I've had exactly 3 losses in about 300 blanks (verbatim single layer)and I think two of them were my fault. With the DL I'm batting 100%. [Of course you know what this means: the very next burn will fail.]
Another suggestion, if the media is rated, say 16X, try burning at 12X. As Augustus used to say: festina lente.
