out of 100 i think i had 1 coaster(failed dvd), and im half way through my second spindle with no coasters. my dvd player reads them all the way to the edge of the disc and other dvd players with little dvd-r support seem to like these. anybody who burns many dvds knows that vebatim consistently has the best quality. if your new to the dvd backup game, dont skimp on quality! and for this price, you get both quality and cheapness.
EDIT: on my 3rd spindle and no new coasters since that first one...
EDIT: 4th spindle and no more coasters!! I think that first coaster was user error. Ive been have troubles with my burner latley, no fault of the discs. It was the same problem with failed DVD but at that time I didn't know what to do. Replacing the disc solved the problem but trying again same disc would have probably solved the problem.

I barely find a coaster on the Verbatim DVD-R's. It is as par as with the Maxells, Sony's, TDKs and RiDatas that I have used before. Try to stay away from unknown brands that is kind of a hit or miss. The thing with DVD's or CD's is that when you find a bad one, it seems to be bunched into the same stack as they were manufactured at the same place and at the same time. My recommendation is not to burn DVDs or CDs using the maximum speed, the chance of a bad burn tend to be much much less if you use the next slower speed indicated on the media. Same as filling up the data capacity, 4200mb seems to work best for me as filling up the DVD to the edge may become problematic.

Being an old time computer and video geek from way back when, I have gone trough my fair share of various recording media. Recently most of the DVD disk makers have gone to higher speeds and my Panasonic recorder was having quite a few issues with the drive not reading a number of brands. In other words, I was getting quite a few coasters and my recorder is just 2 years old.
On one of my last DVD disk purchases, I picked up a Spindle of 100 DVD-R disks made by Verbatim and was very pleased with the outcome. No more coasters!! Needless to say, I have been burning up a storm with these disks and I will never go back to other brand names.

When it comes to rating DVD media the only criteria that counts is how well they work in your DVD writer/player. I have tried all the major brands and some of the others as well. This particular Verbatim disk is the only one that has given me 100% burn success with over 200 disks made. In addition they have all played without error in every player tried.
I use a HP DVD1040i and Iomega Super DVD to write my DVDs. Many of the DVDs I create (perhaps half) are given to others, so they are played using many different players.
Your results may be different depending on the equipment you use but these could be worth a try.

This is the best media you can buy, for both quality and cost. The only negative reviews mentioned here are more related to OS issues rather than the actual blank media.
This is the one you want for your data storage and back-up, be it mp3, applications, movies, books, photos etc. I have tried atleast 7-8 other brands of media and this one performs the best, in terms of long term readability also.
