These disks are attractive, and they work in every drive in which I have tried them. The only downside is that they are about 6 dollars more expensive per hundred than are the amazonbasics disks. But for me, each brand has its niche. The amazon basics are for archiving lots of data on a drive where I know that they will work. The verbatim are for gifts, customers, or for burning data on a drive I've never used. One other advantage of these disks over the amazonbasics is that they are thinner. This means that my macbook can pull them into the drive easier. It sometimes has trouble ejecting, or pulling the amazon basics disks because they are thicker.Customer Review: Best DVD Disks for older recorders

Having been into video since the late 70's, I have used numerous products for video recording. Recently DVD makers have gone to higher speed disks and my Panasonic recorder (Just a few years old) was having major problems with reading and writing to a number of brands out there.
I purchased a 100 pack of Verbatim DVD-R disks for my unit and have not had a coaster yet. All were handled well by my Panasonic recorder. After this, I will not buy other brands in the future. If looking for a quality DVD disk that will read and write well with older DVD units, you should check out Verbatim - I think you will be happy with the results!

I use verbatim CDRs to copy my CDs for playing in the car as they're the only brand that my Dodge CD player will recognize (other than the originals). I therefore bought a stack of Verbatim DVDs to transfer some of my VHS tapes. So far, the DVDs are no problem. I've only lost one on a burn and that was a software problem. I've recorded some at 16x but I mostly burn at a slower speed just to be sure I get a good transfer. Either way, all the burns have worked. I'm using an hp TS-H653R DVD burner on a Core2 Duo, 4gb ram with XP and Honestech VHS to DVD 3.0 SE software.Customer Review: Have burned over 1000+ Verbatim Disc, one of the BEST brand

Burned over 1000+ disc from Verbatim. Been using Verbatim disc for years, then switched to RiData, because of the cheaper price, now back to Verbatim, since their price has gotten more competitive.

* Good price at $19.99 with free shipping
* May get 1 coaster per 100 pack spindle, and that may not even have anything to do with the disc

* Verbatim is got to be one of the best, along with TDK. My personal experience, Memorex has got to be one of the worse. Enough said...

I use these disks for all my burning. They are compatable with everything I ahve put them in, including at least 10 different DVD players. I only recently found another brand that seems to work and is much cheaper. Memorex DVD-R, they use to not work in almost any of my DVD players about 3 years ago so I used Verbatim... I was forced to use them about a month ago and now they are working just as good.
Bottom Line, Verbatim is a great fall back and if you want to take a slight chance to save some money try Memorex DVD-r
