Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Verbatim 95098 4.7 GB up to16x Branded Recordable Disc DVD+R (100 Disc Spindle)Customer Review: Best outside of Taiyo Yuden Summary: 5 Stars
EDIT: This review applies to Verbatim 95098 specifically!
Bearing in mind that some media and some optical drives just do not get along, I would say that these discs (manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.) are the closest in quality to the cream of the crop (Taiyo Yuden) that I have come across.
The thing to remember when buying blank DVD media is that brand name means little: you want a good manufacturer. For instance, I have burned some TDK media for a friend and noticed that one batch was manufactured by Ritek and another by CMC Magnetics.
I strongly suggest checking this page before you buy:

Be sure to check out the freeware tool DVD Identifier, as well, so you know who is manufacturing your media:

Hope this helps to cut back on "coasters!"
EDIT February 2011: Not sure why Amazon removed my links to websites that review and rate CD/DVD/BD media after they had been up for quite some time. I suppose a quick Googling will suffice....
Customer Review: good Summary: 5 Stars
I've started using verb for a while now, since it provides nice data quality. Score 95-98% in quality data rate after years has passed. While memorex drops to 80-75%, has to drop prety low before transfer speeds drop to 2x- 0 or become trash.
I've used sony before, dvds probably last 3-6 years without any crc errors. (rated 1st class actually like verb)
I've used memorex as well, tend to last around 3-6 without any crc errors.( rated 2nd)
I usually avoid the 3rd class brand, like phillips for example, but to tell ya the truth I would think most errors are caused pc/burner side compatibility, hence why so many people get coasters. I have worse brands and yet they still run ok after so many years. Don't remember getting any coasters with generic or good brand dvds.
I would probably watch out when companies outsource their dvds, then quality may drop or improve. Like maxwell and tdk, some of their dvds are hard to tell which are actually trash or quality.
Customer Review: I thought these were bad Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using Verbatim for several years now. I've burned over 500 DVDs with them, and never had a coaster. I got this batch and burned about 8 of them and they were not burning as good. When it starts to verify the burn the speed would go up and down between the 0.1x and 4.0x range, which was annoying the hell out of me. I thought these were bad. But I checked for the latest firmware for my Lite-On drive and updated it. Now it burns and verifies perfectly! If you are having problem with these DVDs you need to upgrade to the latest firmware. Also for those who want to know, the disc ID on this is MCC-004-00. It's still made by Mitsubishi and one of the highest quality media out there. Thanks Verbatim for sticking with MCC and keeping the quality.
Customer Review: Best DVD+R's Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing product. Recording pic quality and sound is far better (5.1 is FANTASTIC) than name names. I am in AWE of the difference. I am going to only use this brand from now on. Amazon has a great price on these too. Anyone that buys anyother brand is doing themselves a dis-service. If you want the best there is, the best there was and the best that will ever be---GO VERBATIM!!!!!!!
UPDATE: If you want as close to pure DVD quality as can be had by a copy, DO get Verbatim, no other brand name comes close. I had been under impression that all blank DVD's were all the same, believe me they are NOT. I am switching to Verbatim for all my data and video needs. Also, thanks Amazon for having at a reasonable cost, too.
Customer Review: hands down the best Summary: 5 Stars
i use these religiously... after a few years (long ago) experimenting with different brands i finally came across these and now exclusively use these.
they have a perfect area to write on with a sharpie marker (which was a problem with most of the other discs i tried out which either had no label and made it hard to see writing or the label it did have was too intrusive or wasn't proper to write on.. but these are perfect in not being to intrusive or obstructive and having enough room to write in (like 3-4 lines)
i've used thousands and never a bad disc... in combination with imgburn (great free software).
will continue to buy and use these as there is no reason not to. highly recommended.
