Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of V-MODA Vibe Duo In-Ear Noise-Isolating Metal Headphone with Universal One-Button Mic (Nero)Customer Review: Worth the price and mine lasted Summary: 5 Stars
Conclusion: Good sound. Have lasted 17 months so far. I'd buy them again.
Many of the reviews here say the same thing: "Great but they break." For this reason I wanted to hold off on any review until I'd used them for longer than the majority of the reviews that are complaining. I've now owned and used these buds for 17 months. I've used them while walking, riding trains, flying, and sitting still. I've listened to music, movies, TV, and carried on numerous phone calls under all of these conditions.
Sound:
The sound quality is very good for such a small package. Using the different tips to find the right fit is key to a good sound experience. The range has been fine for all kinds of music from classical to techno-pop. Compared to other earbuds the bass seems heavy. However, compared to a full stereo with quality speakers it sounds about right. However, setting the iPhone EQ to "small speakers" is a mistake as this *does* make the bass too boomy. My best experience is with the EQ off entirely.
Microphone:
I have had no complaints about this microphone. I've not let anyone else call me using my headset so I do not have first-hand experience. However, even walking into the wind I have not had anyone complain of background noise or trouble hearing me. Train and airport announcements are picked up by the microphone loud and clear, though.
Physical:
The buds are easy to get in and out of the ears. The cable does not get tangled easily and the lapel clip works well to keep the cord in place. The microphone button does take some getting used to compared to the Apple headset but hitting it is second nature for me now.
Wear:
I have seen no wear problems at all. I do use the included pouch whenever I put them away for storage but I have, on many occasions, just wrapped them up and shoved them in a pocket while getting off a plane or train. I can see no symptoms of cables breaking or fraying.
Me:
I am not an audiophile. I use my iPhone for music and video a lot but there is always background noise or I am doing something else while listening to it. I'm comparing these earbuds with the ones included with the iPhone and a few others (all under $50).
Customer Review: The Perfect Headset Solution for iPhone Summary: 5 Stars
I was on the hunt for a good set of headphones that would fit my iPhone. I've tried several in the past, most just not measuring up in terms of sound quality, and I'm no audiophile. But when i got the iPhone, my demands were updated to include the fit for the slip iPhone jack. So when i finally landed on these babies, i was very pleasantly surprised. My first time using them was in the airport, and man were they perfect. I'll admit they don't block out ALL the sound, but i don't want that. I like to be aware of whats going on around me. So with the volume on medium, i could clearly hear my iPhone, but still was also aware of my surrounding (just in case some crazy wanted to jump me or something). When my first call came in while using these, i was stunned, almost didn't know what to do. But then i pressed the button on the mic once, and was on my phone call (the music faded to black). The caller seemed to have no idea i was on a headset, and i could hear them perfectly. When the call was over, i pressed the button again, and my music picked up where it left off. Also, on tap of the button pauses the music, and two taps skips the track. It would have been nice to have a function that goes back to the beginning, or the previous song, but I'm not gonna be the one to complain about every little thing. All in all i like this headset very much, though the price was a lot for me to swallow. But if I'm gonna get everything out of my $400 phone, i may as well have good accessories to go with it. And as for comfort (the main reason i wanted new ones, as the Apple version SUCKS), it's awesome. I wore it pretty much my entire journey (~8 hours) including sleeping on the flights, and my ears had not a single complaint. Please try these. If you don't have the iPhone, get the regular Vibes. Its a great design.
Customer Review: Best iPhone Headphones on the Market Summary: 5 Stars
GREAT SOUND, LOTS OF BASS:
The mids and highs are crisp, and the bass really kicks. If you're the kind of person that likes to feel the low-end thump, these buds are perfect for you. The only possible complaint is that there's too much bass, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
NEW BUDS? BREAK THEM IN:
The sound gets better after a break-in period. When new, I let them play my iTunes library overnight. After that, they're perfect.
WORK GREAT IN NOISY ENVIRONMENTS:
The sound-isolating quality of the in-ear buds is perfect, even when the BART train is squealing around a corner, you can still hear every word of your morning podcast. I would not recommend these for cyclists or joggers, you won't be able to hear the cars.
MADE FOR IPHONE:
The microphone works great as long as it's not too windy. The way the button is designed, I find it's easiest to spin the barrel between my thumb and forefinger to answer calls or pause the music without having to look for the button. You can double-click the button to skip to the next track.
COMFORTABLE TO WEAR:
It's important to experiment with the different earbud sizes and materials to figure out which ones fit your ear best. Once I found the right fit, the only time I've ever found the Vibe Duo uncomfortable was after the 8th hour of an intercontinental plane ride.
RELIABILITY ISSUES RESOLVED BY KILLER CUSTOMER SERVICE:
I am pretty rough on my headphones. Over the last 2 years, I've had 2 pairs fail. Both times, I contacted V-Moda and they were very quick to send me a new pair for free. Excellent customer service means I can confidently give these buds 5 stars.
Customer Review: Make your iPhone sing!! Summary: 5 Stars
OK, they are pricey. $99 for a pair of earbuds. Granted, they are extremely stylish, with the chrome accents, and fabric cords, and the nifty little case, but $99 is a lotta cash for a pair of iPod/iPhone earbuds. Good thing they sound terrific. Very deep punchy bass, though some people may not like them as much if they're not bass freaks. Highs are pretty good, and anyone will agree they sound better than the slightly better than average pack in iPhone earbuds. They look greta, they sound great. These models have the long awaited call button/skip track feature on the cord, which the first models did not have. It works well, people sound great and I never had anyone say they couldn't hear me even when in a crowded store.
The silicone fittings come in three sizes and two colors, so you get extras to fit your ear size. They are very snug and isolate sound similar to a pair of earplugs, blocking out some noise. Though these aren't noise cancelling, they do suppress a lot of noise. Excellent in that respect.
Bottom line: Worth it? For me, yes...the braided fabric wire means less tangles, and the sound isolation and comfort are tops. The call button mimics the original pack ins, and allows the same functions. And the sound is great. I say go for it, if you're looking for a better pack in for the iPhone. iPod users have cheaper alternatives without the call button feature but there really aren't many options for iPhone users, at least not yet.
Customer Review: Even the click sounds great! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using these for about two months and I like them more each day. They are built to last. The cords have a fabric outer lining. The buds themselves have a serious metal ring to protect them and the sound diaphragms have metal micro screens also for protection. And they come with a small carrying case. My Apple earbuds worked fine but they wore out after 6 months. I expect these to last much longer.
They are not "sound canceling". You jam them into your ear and they block outside sound, just like closing a window blocks street noise. They come with three sizes of soft inserts to fit your ear. This isn't elegant but it works. But do these sound better?
My iPhone makes a click sound when I turn the screen off. With the Apple earbuds this is just a click. With the V-MODA earbuds, this click is a symphony of sound. I actually marvel when I hear this click. And the microphone is equally excellent. I called my Mom, 3,000 miles away, while I was walking on the street and she thought I was in my living room on a regular wired phone.
On the Apple earbuds you can stop listening by squeezing the microphone. On the V-MODA earbuds you have to find the button on the microphone to silence them. This is less convenient, so there's some room for improvement. But even though these cost 3 times as much as Apple's version, if I lose these, I'll buy them again.
