Customer Review: Biggest bang for your buck
Summary: 5 Stars

Before I had these earbuds I used the Shure brand earbuds. The shure brand is known for high-quality, but not always appealing price tag. So while I enjoyed the quality of the higher end ear bud, I did not enjoy spending the $200 it cost to purchase them. Since those earbuds broke, I had been shopping around for another decent pair for a much lower price since it was obvious to me that my on-the-go lifestyle would not treat my headphones well. I looked into these earbuds a bit and figured I could spare a mere $30. I struck gold. These are some of the best earbuds I have ever had for the price. The sound-isolating quality is not of the same calibur as say the Shure series, but for the price they can't be beat. If a person were to stand within one foot of your person, neither you or the individual would be able to hear one another. That's some good sound isolation.
In regards to the sound, the bass reproduction of these earbuds are actually slightly better than the shure series that I last used (of course those were second generation and I think they are up to the fifth). My only gripe with these earbuds is that if you enjoy music that is more artistic (classical or jazz) where instruments are emphasized over beat/vocals, these headphones may not be the best choice. The treble that these headphones put out is only mediocre. So rock, jazz, classical, and maybe a couple other genres may be better heard on a different headphone set, but I think only true audiophiles will notice a drop in quality and only if he or she had just recently been listening to some high-end headphones. This problem may even be remedied by a simple adjustment to the EQ that comes as a fairly standard option on most media devices.

Conclusion: BUY THESE EARBUDS! You won't be disappointed. Great price, great bass, great deal.

Customer Review: Nice balanced sound! Stands up the beating so far
Summary: 5 Stars

It's mostly good, so far (3 months of use)!

(1)Sound quality is great! I have an iPod and iPhone 3GS. I have always used Apple's factory headsets until they broke. Then I switch to other headsets I could get my hands on. The sound quality among all of them are about the same. So I thought all the headsets sound the same, until I bought this pair off from Amazon. The first moment I put it on, all I could say was "Damn!" I have wasted all my life so far in mediocre headsets if not "enlightened" by this pair! This pair of headset brings out a very balanced sound/music from whatever you play. Hence, there's also a negative perspective -- it's a bit lack of bass output when you really crave for it. But, like they say, you can't win all the time.

(2)They are comfortable. This set comes with 3 other sizes of ear plugs, if I remember it right. I found the factory ones comfy enough.

(3)They cancel the outside noise quite well! Once I put them on, most of the embient noise is gone.

(4)They stand up to my beating qutie well. I use them rough! I do mean rough -- in the gym running, bench pressing, skiing, skating, rock-climbing, hiking, outdoor cycling, ... I won't say it is under tuck and pull all the time. But it has a rough life for sure. It has been 3 months. So far, so good.

Update:

Now that I have used this pair for almost 2 years everyday with heavy use (I fell asleep with them as well), I am really impressed with it! So I changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars! Like everybody else, I have used many different headsets/earbuds before. I haven't seen any other pair even come close when it comes to durability. The sound quality is just as good from the day I received them from Amazon 2 years ago.

Customer Review: Truly Surprised
Summary: 5 Stars

Having tried the oem buds and then the V Moda Vibe, Koss Sparkplug, Bose IE and now the V Moda Bass....I've learned quite a bit. Firstly, for the money (under $20) the Koss Sparkplug is an excellent buy and a definite upgrade from most OEM headphones, but they are not in the same leaque as the V Modas or Bose of course. The Bose IE were a bit disppointing audibly (they have improved the fit greatly with the new earpieces) and the V Moda Vibe is a wonderful unit. The big surprise for me was the V Moda Bass Freq. Ignoring the low price...the Bass Freq unit produced suberb bass with great warmth and presence without compromising mid range and treble response. A very praisworthy combination that is not often found...yet here is found on a headphone that retails for under $40 in many places.
We often talk about bass, midrange and treble...but just ignoring those terms and just listening, enjoying and comparing....the simple comment....these sound truly wonderful...says it all about these V Modas.
Now audio prefernces are very subjective. What for me is a warm and 'entertaining' listen may be too bassy for others. Different types of music also effect prefernces. Oh yes....PLEASE try the 3 different earpiece sizes that come with the unit. Achieving a proper 'seal' and placement within the ear can make a very significant difference in sound reproduction and isloation from outside noise. After you find the correct size earpieces (you might find two different sizes are best for two different ears!)I truly believe that the vast majority of users will be thrilled and surprised at how wonderful these inexpensive headphones are and really question how much difference spending twice the price will NOT gain for you. I am simply that incredibly happy with the V Moda Bass Freq...no less than that!

Customer Review: V Moda- The way to go

First, off, this is probably my most expensive and highest quality headphones I have bought to date, upgrading from a pair of Sony Behind the neck (MDR42 I think??). This is one of the best headphones any one could buy for a sub 50 dollar range. Although many reviewers rave about sound quality, I found something else that made these headphones worth every penny: the noise blocking. Since they are in ear headphones, they block a good percent of the sound, so when you are walking down the street, its easier to listen to music on lower volumes, and the cars passing by you sound only as if a gentle wind is blowing past you. Off course, if you are looking for real noise isolation, these aren't going to be enough, but it delivers enough for the average person who wants more than the crappy ipod earbuds.
The sound quality was good, producing pretty strong bass and pretty good balance. I've noticed the source of the music impacts the amount of bass, and these have to be the match for the ipod. They even come in matching colors for your player This is more than you can would expect from any headphones this cheap.
Pros
-good noise reduction
-comfortable in the ear
-nice colors that match your player
-sound quality very good
-cheap
-outstanding value
-good bass compared to other headphones
-comes with 3 replaceable inserts to fit every ear

Cons
-sometimes collects earwax inside insert, not a big deal though, easily cleaned

As you can see, the pros heavily out way the cons. I would recommended this to any one who wants more than the ipod headphones. I would gives these headphones a 9/10, or 4.5/5.

These earbuds are ideal for running, going to the gym, or listening to your iPod on the subway. They are 'noise-isolating' (not '-canceling') -- stick a finger in each ear to get an idea. The bass frequencies in your environmental noise naturally have the greatest leakage, so the 'bass enhancement' on these 'phones actually seems to improve the overall isolation.

Playing bass-heavy electronic music at 60% iPod volume completely eliminates the sound of the NY subway. I was looking the other way at the platform and the (1)-train pulled up without me noticing. I've used 'em on airplanes and buses too - blocks the engine noise and all the colicky babies' crying. They work very well in the library too, since noise doesn't leak out and disturb others.

A $20 price-tag places these in the 'disposable' category (i.e., you aren't going to use these to remaster classical music recordings). However, I'm satisfied with the sound quality and I love the intensity of the bass. These are BIG step up from the pathetic Coby and SkullCandy brand earbuds as well as the meek white iPod earbuds that break in half after 10 hours of use. They seem pretty durable: I've dropped them in a puddle and walked over them with ski boots and they still work fine.

Bottom line: if you are on a budget and need a pair of headphones for the gym or on-the-go, these are a great choice. And if you listen to bass-heavy music, these are *the* best choice.

UPDATE: 29-Aug-09: After nine months of everyday [ab]use, the right speaker died. It appears to be a burnt-out voice coil, rather than broken solder or wire (the wires are epoxied into the plastic headphone speaker cases, by the way). I am about to order another pair.
