Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Uniden Bearcat BCT8 BearTracker Warning System with 800 MHz TrunkTracker III

Customer Review: BCT8 Scanner
Summary: 4 Stars

One of the hottest receiving scanners I have ever owned. Great backlight for mobile or night use. (Main reason for 4 star rating) Down side. Very vague setup instructions. I am in the Communications field and have two friends that make a living at it and are still having problems programming the trunk tracking feature, especially the talk groups. Do not seem to get them to work and no help from the manual. Instructions are terrible and not complete. Also, DO NOT BUY the software that Uniden advertises. Go to another vender and get a much better program.

Customer Review: Exactly what I expected...
Summary: 4 Stars

The BCT8 is an easy to use, feature rich, and affordable scanner. It does exactly as promised. It gets great reception, even in my basement that's 5-6 feet below grade. I use it primarily for Fire/Rescue, although I do occasionally listen in to the police chatter in my area on the 800mhz. Programing was simple enough, about what I expected it to be. All in all, I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend it for the application in which I use it (as a desktop scanner). I can't comment on using it as a mobile application. Hope this is helpful.

Customer Review: Almost there
Summary: 4 Stars

The radio works good, but has one big flaw. The only search function divides the frequency spectrum into 13 bands, some of which are quite large and take a long time to go through. The chance of missing a short transmission is therefore also quite large.

I don't understand why they didn't include a function that existed on my 30 year old Pro-2020 and just about every other scanner, which is to enter in an arbitrary search range.

Too bad. I like the unit otherwise, but it's going to be returned for this reason.

Customer Review: BEARCAT SCANNER
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall this is a phenominal product. I gave it 4 stars not based on the product, or the products capabilities, but rather the idiot behind this message. I love listening to what going on in town or out and about while travelling, yet for the life of me I can't figure out all the buttons. Shame on me! Don't let that stop you if you're an advid radio techie, this thing rocks!

Customer Review: A little complex, but don't let the reviews scare you
Summary: 4 Stars

It seems like many of the reviews I read on scanners on Amazon.com talked about how overwhelming scanners are to set up and use. This scanner works great and I had it up and running in 15 minutes with all major frequencies in my county. I like the fact that this unit can be mounted different ways and comes with a 12-volt adapter.
