My area is still using analog, so this inexpensive scanner fit my needs. The Trunk Tracking feature ensures that I miss less of the transmissions. The user manual leaves much to be desired, so radioreference.com helped me program (and also provided my local frequencies) the BCT8 in under ten minutes. The BCT8 is solidly built and the audio is excellent. Besides the Public Safety frequencies, I can also listen to VHF Marine and Aviation, along with SW,CB,RR and NOAA Weather. Although it can be vehicle mounted, and comes complete with all mounting hardware, I use mine as a desktop. This is my third scanner and I'm impressed with the BCT8 all the way around.Customer Review: Worth the money.

I've had this scanner for a week now and it still surprizes me. When on a road trip I picked up my local police from 50 miles from my town. My other scanners don't pick them up after about 10 miles. It's also compatable with ECAS Trunked System, which is the main reason I baught this scanner. It also gets rid of the anoying beeps at the end of each trasmission of the fire and police. Also great feature is the conectivty of the scanner to your computer makes programing very easy. I just purchased this scanner before i thought about looking into see if it did all that as well i havent seen it stated. if i know the frequency can i put it in and pick it up? Also is can this be used as a base scanner as well? I wish i would have gotten these answers before i bought it but it was the cheapest i found so i jumped on it before thinking. This is the 1st scanner i have used since I was a young boy listening to my dad's old BearCat unit. I find it easy to operate for casual use and the preprogramming picks up Tampa PD and HillsCounty Fire Rescue though on preset EMS, not preseit police. I am having trouble programming for trunking which is necessary to follow HillsCounty Sheriffs office, but I'm roaming the net to find tips. I am familiar with this brand and I know it would have been a great product as we have had this product before. However, fire claimed this one before we could even turn it on! I am giving it a good rating based on prior knowledge and the assurance that I had purchased it from a reputable source.
