Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Uniden BC92XLT Bearcat Handheld Scanner

Customer Review: Excellent non-trunking small scanner.
Summary: 5 Stars

I actually purchased the Radio Shack relabelled version of this exact radio for $80. I have also seen it go down as low as $60. I was stunned how much you can do for so little money. I already have a larger pricier scanner, but wanted this one for it's size. It's probably 60% the size of a normal scanner. This scanner does NOT do analog or digital trunking, but I did not need it for my application. The small stubby antenna seems to do the job, but performance will vary wherever you are. Prepare to buy a different antenna if things don't work out. For me, it did not do a great job in scanning unknown frequencies, but that is maybe due to the size of the antenna and where I am. But I went to the internet to find frequencies and programmed them in. Worked like a champ. I will agree with the previous reviewer, this is not user friendly by a long shot. You need to keep the instructions near you at all times. I have used both Uniden and GRE scanners, and I do not think I have come across any user friendly scanner! Maybe there's one out there, but don't hold your breath.

Customer Review: Very Impressed
Summary: 5 Stars

I grew up with a big base scanner. This one is one eighth the size and picks up so much more. I programmed in over 50 local frequencies from the Internet and the scan features flies through them, so you don't miss much. The manual may seem a little intimidating but once you know the basics, the scanner will be easy to operate.

Some of the transmissions cut off and on periodically but I live out in the boonies, so that may have something to do with it. I live in an area that is susceptible to brush fires and floods, so this will come in handy. Quick delivery too, by the way. Thank you, Amazon.

Customer Review: Frequency Scanner Mod
Summary: 5 Stars

The Uniden BC-92XLT Can Be Used As A Frequency Counter. To enter this mode Press "HOLD,3 and 0" while turning the Power On. You then can change the group of frequencies you wish to check. To do this use the Up and Down Arrow Keys. The Scanner will display the strongest frequency transmitted. Example: To check a Citizens Band Radio frequency, select The Lo group. If you Transmit on Channel 20 the scanner will display 27.205 MHz. You can check with a Ham Radio, Marine, GMRS, etc. It will display the frequency used. This Will also work on Uniden BC-95XLT & BC-72XLT. Should work with Radio Shack PRO-83 & PRO-84.

Customer Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second unit and I have not had any problems with either of them. The battery life is about a day, which is great, considering you can charge the NiMH batteries with the included charger. The programming interface is simple, it doesn't dirty easily and is easily cleaned anyway. Great reception, with the big antenna. Fast shipping with this seller... truely a great product. Remember that this product holds 10 banks of 20 frequencies. If you are looking for something smaller, Bearcat has a BC72XLT which is 10 x 10... usually about 20$ less. But an equally quality product. A++++++

Customer Review: Best scanner I have.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've got this scanner and it works well. Kind of have to take time to figure out the manual, but not too bad. I have not figured out how to get the "display light on squelch" to work. Supposed to light the display when it stops on a transmission. Does anyonw know how to activate it? Maybe it doesn't even have the feature as advertised from where I bought it. (not Amazon.com)A better antenna would help also. I'm going to purchase a longer "Rubber Duck" antenna and also a longer ridged one to pull in the aircraft band. In all a great compact scanner. I like it.
