I bought this scanner to help me with the work I do shooting news. It's a great scanner! VERY VERY Easy to use and to program. The price was right and regular alkaline batteries have a long lasting life. I've been on the same set of batteries for a few days now and the scanner is still running. I gotta admit, I was reluctant to get it because of those negative reviews but I am glad I bought it. The audio comes across very clearly. This is an excellent beginner scanner.
It only took me one hour to read the manual and figure out how it works (I am a beginner).
The only thing that I noticed (not really a negative) is the short number of memories. I really cannot say I was not aware. I just thought I would not need more than 100 but it seems that I will rapidly fill it up.
For the price, this little scanner is hard to beat!

I am a ham radio operator and suffered through the confusing owner's manual for my Yaesu FT60 (in fact, I needed LOTS of help to pragram it!). In getting a handheld scanner, I did NOT want to suffer again. This scanner is easy to program. The manual itself is not well organized, but once you find your area of interest,the instructions are step by step. This is a good deal!Customer Review: Good scanner

Good hand held scanner for the money. I bought it for Christmas for my father who likes listening to the local police at night. I went online and found out local frequencies and plugged then in for him and he could not be happier. I know he wouldn't have been able to program it himself, so it is a little tricky there. This is an easy way to keep track of the weather and local Fire and Police issues. I enjoy this and listening to everything from Ham radio stations to the docks loading up trains nearby. This is not for a formal user, but for fun and quick updates on why the FD just left down your street. Some reading is required so pay attention to the directions.
