I purchased the scanner for a church. Not only was it helpful for having a radio to be informed about local events, but the weather radio was very useful when bad weather aproached, and we needed to turn off our computers. The scanner was just plain fun and interesting...maybe a little disturbing at times. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially a business, because this is an old church and built of thick concrete walls and radios don't usually work here, but this one does. I had an old Radio Shack Scanner.but it nevr wore just right.it would cut out on calls.and after a while it wouldn't pick up certain channels.
The Uniden is 100% better.I sat down with the book and in a hafl an hour I had loaded all the Channesl. b ut let me sat this first .
order the police Scanner book , it takes a little while to understank,but if I chould do it any can. it will give you code and more in formation to understand what you are hearing .like 1097/code 4/1020 and much more.

Great basic scanner! Had a 20+ year old Bearcat...this one is much smaller and lighter. Very easy to program. Audio is very good, and the "backlight" option provides good visibility of the channel that is being broadcast. Not for those wanting advanced features like "trunking", but for basic Police, Fire, EMS and Air, this unit is hard to beat. Especially for under $90!Customer Review: Excellent product

Being a volunteer firefighter I'm happy that this scanner does exactly what I need. The weather alert function works wonderfully to keep me informed of ever changing conditions in my area. The 100 channels allow me to monitor not only my own fire stations channels, but also nearby mutual aid departments as well as police service. Excellent quality and it is truly a do it all scanner/clock radio.
Speaker quality is also very good and the battery back-up a must.
Only thing that was a bit of a challenge was programming the scanner functionality. Just not straight forward and the documentation could have been allot better in that area.
