I think this is a very nice scanner but before trying to hand program it buy and use the software and save your settings to a file in case you mess up. Then play around with manual programming. It is really easy to program this scanner once you figure out how it is suppose to be done. I love this scanner and take it everywhere and wished I would have bought it sooner. It will do everything you want it to and more. I am not sorry that I bought it..Now I want to get the BCT15 for the house...Cheers..KeithmjCustomer Review: excellent scanner

I do not recommend this hand held scanner to anyone who isn't skilled at programming with the use of a computer. This is a very complicated scanner using cutting edge technology. It's performence is awsome. Really a good scanner.It uses filing systems that are different than your run of the mill scanners. I think if you are looking for a scanner this is the one to have. I had a little difficulty with the instructions for the programming but i figured it out. I give it 5 stars still but the instructions could be a little more user friendly. Alot of fun with this toy. I think they fail to mention it does come with rechargable batteries. took me 2 months to figure it out how to properly setup and programming trunk tracking. sound are in very good quality.
the only problem is that this product is very hard to program
it at first use. learning curve caused a lot of frustration.
generally speaking, it's still a good scanner radio.

The BC-246 works great. It took me a little while to figure out how to set up the local trunking system, but after a few hours I had all the local Freqs installed. I like being able to lockout certain Id's, before I had to listen to everyone on that Frequency. Well worth the money.
