You are supposed to plug this strait into the computer but this product worked even in the middle of a 50 foot chain of all kinds of USB cables(none active other than this one). I bought this long USB cable to use with my laptop and shoot tethered with my Canon 5D Mark II camera. It's beautiful. Pictures go right from my camera to the computer and show up seconds after on my laptop screen. It's an awesome way to shoot in a studio environment. I've had this extension cord in continuous use for almost a year now. There is no noticeable lag from using it; it has held up against people tripping over the cord once or twice (whups); and it has worked perfectly without any issues.
If you need a good long USB extension cable, this is the one to get. Bravo Tripp Lite!

It's long enough to reach almost anywhere within the same room. I have used this for 6 months now and it still works. The USB port at the female end of the cable is a bit bulky, but fine, though I'm always concerned about stepping on it and breaking it. Nonetheless, it hasn't broken despite being stepped on, so it's not fragile.Customer Review: exactly what i needed!

One of the best things I've purchased lately! I was using a standard 6 foot USB with a 5 foot "extension" cable, and my signals were coming out really weak. I switched to this, and whatever i run with it has a noticeably stronger signal. I plugged in my external HD, and it was just as quick as if I'd used a 6 inch cable!
