I had been searching for a cheap(er) Active USB Extension cable for a long time. I finally came across this one day, and found that it was just what I was looking for!
I have used this product for about three months now, and have never had any problems with it. It does not require that you install any additional drivers (at least running on Vista Business x32), and I have not noticed any significant difference in USB speed since it was installed. One thing to note though is that it DOES interfere with your default keyboard and mouse if they are plugged into it. They do work just fine, but for some reason the BIOS on my ThinkCentre does not like the idea of having my keyboard and mouse on an extension cable. In my case however, the BIOS eventually gives up on trying to find it, and just continues on. If you do need to access the BIOS settings however, you will need to transfer the keyboard and mouse to the computer's built in USB Hub.
I have been very pleased with this purchase, and plan on getting one in the case that I need one again!
One other note, the device does have an annoying little red LED while it is active, so I do not suggest installing it in any locations that you need to have it on while sleeping. It is a nice indicator though to let you know that the device if functioning properly.

Tripp Lite's 16-ft. USB Certified 2.0 active extension cable is a bus powered extension cable that can be used to increase the length of a device cable without the worry of signal loss and potential performance problems. USB limits a cable's length to 16ft. any length above 16 feet requires the use of an active cable such as this one. This cable has a signal booster built in. The overall cable length can be extended up to 80ft by daisy chaining up to 5 of these active cables. The cable must be plugged directly into a USB port (either on the PC or a hub).
