Customer Review: Great Unit at a Great Price

I am very impressed with the TomTom One. It has been dead-on accurate, is relatively easy to use, and is a bargain at the price. The interface is solid and has several different modes, the turn instructions are timely, particularly on the highway when it gives you notice for an extra 2 or 3 miles in advance.
In terms of finding addresses, I found that you sometimes needed to enter the street name first, with the number second to find an address, but have been able to find every address that I have needed, even in rural areas of Maryland and Pennsylvania.
It does not have the text to voice capability, which might be nice, but I can see the street name on the screen while it is telling me to turn. I have not used it for finding POY, so I cannot comment on that capability.
I did some comparisons with a friends new Nuvi, which was double the price, and was not impressed with the Nuvi. Amongst other things, I wanted to see the details of a route that the Nuvi selected to make sure I agreed with the route, but was not able to figure out how to get. The TomTom has an option to show you the route in text format so that you can alter the route if you don't like. Perhaps the Nuvi could do that, but I could not figure it out. In the end, I found the TomTom to be more intuitive.
I highly recommend this product (I'm buying a second one for my other vehicle!)

I've had this product for the past 6 months now and am in love with it. I use it all the time. I take to other cities when I travel - which is a boon!
I did a fair amount of research before I bought this one, but since I got it , its been a constant companion, even when we were walking in Manhattan. Although it did take a while to get the satellite signal in the concrete jungle - but that is really the the only drawback among high-rise buildings. In all other aspects, it has exceeded expectations.
I tried the traffic service for a few days. Its pretty good - but a little slow on refreshing the traffic data... but fast on re-routing.
Even without the traffic service, the rerouting is pretty fast. Lots of features and lots of ways to find a destination.
Ever since I have bought this, I have seen several navigation systems with friends - and have found this far superior with better features. There are 100s of voices available online to download (http://frost.web.cern.ch/frost/english_tt_voices/), tomtom.com also upgrade software and maps frequently (have already done it twice in 6 months).
I can also link the 'One' to my laptop and plan my route using the computer's keyboard etc.
Powerful and full of features which can all be used.

Dont buy at this price This model has been replace with the 3nd Edition. I brought my at a local auto store peboys for $119.00 No problem with updates software on there web site install tomtom software on pc connect to internet and it ask what update you want and that was it. Download and install and also back up to pc. yes it reroutes very quickly. I refuse to listins to it beliveing it was takeing me the wrong way turn out I was wrong and rerouted me on steets i never hear of but got me right to where i was going. I also was in a round about and no clue what turn to take well it work like a charmed. So for the price it well wrong having. I live in Las vegas and there is areas you do not want to get lose in. If any thing else i would buy it for safety reason. yes battry life is short 4 hours I dont plan on going hiking with it so its plug in all time in my car.If not its plug in the my pc. The only downfall is at my age it hard to see the small screen with out reading glasses and can not drive with reading glasses so that where the voice comes in handy. Also by the way the choice of voices makes it easy to understand. Yes the tomtom one has bluethoot and the new one does not. Some phones wiil work with it my does not but i can live with that. one more i like it show you you have to makke uturns. Save my bums.Customer Review: Great portable GPS!

I just purchased the TomTom One portable GPS system. I have a very good internal sense of direction and I can read a map just fine but in New Jersey traffic, who can be bothered with that? I hate getting lost on busy roads and I often take long road trips to other states. This is a great device because it will talk you through your route, when to turn, it shows the names of the roads, etc. Another feature I love for road trips is when you get tired and need to stop you can push a button and the TomTom will show landmarks of all the local hotels and gas stations along your route (like if you only want a Marriott hotel it will tell you where the nearest Marriott is and how to get there). It will also show you local attractions and places of interest if you choose. If you are stuck in traffic and want to get off the road you're on you can hit "alternate route" and it will tell you where to go at your next turn off to get to your destination. I use it all the time, even at home. The funny thing is that we just built our home last year and because the development is so new it does not pick up on the GPS so when I turn down my road it just shows me driving into a dirt field! LOL. Other than that it is my most favorite new electronic device.Customer Review: Great, right out of the box.

Very pleased with the TomTom One, right out of the box it works beautifully. Already charged and loaded with very detailed, very accurate maps, it is amazingly simple to use.
I am pleased with the speed and responsiveness of the unit. No apparent lag time when first turned on or while in use. The "clear and accurate turn-by-turn voice instructions" are just as promised. The sound quality is very good and the volume self adjusts to compensate for engine or road noise. While I find the monitor easy to see even in bright sunlight, the voice instructions make watching the screen unnecessary.
The unit has many more useful features than I expected and I find that I use them more than I expected to. The "point of interest" information for things such as gas stations, restaurants, etc have proven to be very accurate, easy to use and useful. No more guessing what is at the next exit and how far away.
The compact size of the TomTom One is an important feature to me since it is not a good idea to leave these units in the car (too tempting for theives). It is small, thin and easy to carry but doesn't compromise screen size.
As inexpensive as this unit has become along with the quality of the product, you can't lose.
