Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TomTom ONE 3rd Edition 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Vehicle NavigatorCustomer Review: I loved my wife's so much, I bought my own Summary: 5 Stars
We got a TomTom ONE for Christmas from my aunt, and we loved it so much that I had trouble sharing it with my wife. So...I went out and bought my own.
I've tried the Garmin nuvi and the TeleNav on my Blackberry, and neither one was as intuitive or helpful. They all got me from point A to point B, but not as "comfortably." One specific example of what I mean by this is that when I miss a turn, the Garmin nuvi plotted a new route and started telling me to make new turns. I wasn't sure if it was turning me around to get back to my original route, or if it had simply plotted a new go-forward route for me. When doing the same thing with the TomTom, when it wanted me to turn around, it told me "Turn around when possible." and then proceeded to guide me through turns that would get be back to my original route. When it wanted me to simply follow a new go-forward route, it omitted the "turn around" message, and simply continued providing turn guidance. It's these little things that make a difference for me, and I just like the way TomTom implemented them.
Customer Review: Still Love It Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these for myself for fathers day 3 years ago. From day one the thing has worked flawlessly anywhere I needed to go. I'm a paranoid traveler when I have to drive somewhere I've never been before. Before my TomTom I would print out driving directions from mapquest, buy maps and plan everything out before I went. And while there was nothing wrong with that, it hindered any opportunity for going off the beaten path. With my TomTom I'm comfortable in knowing that if I see something interesting, I can depart from my planned route and get back on track with no hassle. I should mention that there was one time when the thing just refused to lock in on a satellite. Thankfully I was just at home and tinkering with it. Quick email and response from TomTom tech support and it was up and working. Also I updated the map about a year ago. I was surprised to find out that the map upgrade also added additional features to my TomTom. If I had to buy again I would go with the XL but I'm still very happy with this unit, 3 years later.
Customer Review: Good Product Summary: 5 Stars
Works great. Gives plenty of notice for turns. Works with google maps...awesome! Simple to use. Maps updated often. I really like it.
The walking/biking trails feature is nice but didn't work well for me in Denver. It couldn't tell which way I was going while walking. When I was riding, it didn't know how to get me onto the trail, when I got onto the trail, I wasn't sure if it knew I was on the trail or on roads by the trail. All said, I did get to the trail and followed it to where I wanted to go, which, I couldn't have done without the TomTom.
This is the only Personal navigator I've used, besides a Magellen never lost that was in a rental car. Compared to that one, I prefer the TomTom for navigation and Points of interest like tourist attractions. I liked the Magellan for finding Points of interest like WalMart or Caribu Coffee(it has a yellow pages). The magellan didn't tell me to turn until I was in the middle of the intersection.
I suggest TomTom to my friends...I like it.
Customer Review: Tom Tom 1 Version 3 - Excellent Device Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product. Believe it or not it works great by not reading the street name to you. You know why? Because 80% of the time when I am lost I can't see the stupid street sign anyway. So why pay more for a useless feature?? This GPS will tell you within how many feet of your turn you are, so you know where the street is registered to be, and whether to turn left or right. I love the feature where you can set a speed limit beep to remind you not to speed; as I just got saved from a ticket with this warning. Otherwise, this GPS is great.!! Love the night colors and ability to turn the brightness down..!! Complaint #1 is that the suction cup mount is not easily stored; it is a bit too bulky. My 2nd complaint is there are Not Enough Celebrity Voices available for this device. Love This GPS, at $[...] retail, and $[...] on sale using the Tom Tom rebate, this was a great price.!! I don't need the Apple Iphone now, because that was the thing I wanted from it was GPS and traffic information. Phil in California.
Customer Review: Actually, this review is of the ONE 2nd Edition Summary: 5 Stars
For some reason, TomTom does not list the 2nd Edition on the list of products for reviews. That is a shame, because the 2nd Ed. is one of the best GPS devices ever available. I dare to say that it is even better than the 3rd edition, as it has a slot for a SD card, what opens a new world for updates, and upgrades. The 2nd. Ed. is easy to use, robust, and takes you from point A to point B without breaking the bank. Differently than most people believe, it can be used with MapShare (you need to update it through TomTom Home), and supports most of the recent map versions. If you are bold enough to try something more advanced, you can even enable TTS (Text to Speech), so that it would not just tell you "turn right in 100 feet", but it would also tell you the name of the street, like the most expensive models. The only con is the poor battery life. However, if you are not planning to use it for walking, that should not be a problem. In a nutshell, it is a great product, does what it was meant to do, and does not cost much.
