Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TomTom ONE 3rd Edition 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Vehicle NavigatorCustomer Review: I really like Tom Summary: 5 Stars
I'd gotten a Magellan Roadmate for my husband for Christmas - he travels a lot for work & I thought that was the perfect gift for him. Then I met Tom, and now we go everywhere - long or short trips. It doesn't have as many fiddle-features as the Magellan (likely a safety feature), but it takes me where I want to go, even adjusting the ETA based on my speed vs the speed limits. It's very user friendly, and has worked in some very remote areas. I like the HELP ME features, different voice and language capabilities, user map corrections, I'm really very pleased with Tom as my co-pilot. We recently took a trip across 3 states, and my husband felt left out - Tom handled the navigation part just fine. Now we can discuss what's more important than "This way or that way" topics!
Right out of the box, Tom has been all I'd hoped for in a navigation system, and I've been very pleased with the simplicity & accuracy. While I may or may not be taking the most direct route - I've gotten exactly where I was going without having to pull over & consult a map or gas station. Tom rules! It's got all the gadgets and accessories you'll need in the box, for basic use = no need to go buy batteries, holsters, etc, just get in the car & go where you wanna go. Nice job, TomTom!
Customer Review: Value for money - does the job. Summary: 5 Stars
This is my 2nd GPS and I am completely satisfied with its performance - especially for the price I paid for this one - $125 at Amazon. Yes, there are other models that have a host of features like MP3 player, bluetooth, ipod compatibility etc. etc. However, if you just want navigation only, this one does it right. The satellite signal acquisition is very fast, since this one has the good sirfStar III chipset, which is all what matters.
The map accuracy could be better. As a matter of fact the street that I live on, is incorrect on this GPS. Nice thing is that you can correct the map yourself, and share your corrections with other users as well. I hope in time TomTom will recognize the mistake, and post it publicly.
This one has maps of both US and Canada, as opposed to similarly priced models that have USA only. It does not have spoken street names. I have seen other GPSs with spoken street names, and of course that is a nice feature to have. However, one can easily get used to without the spoken street names. (Do not confuse this with spoken directions. Mostly all GPSs these days speak directions. I am referring about Text-to-speech).
All in all, this has been a great value for money at $125. You wont get lost !!!
Customer Review: Great GPS!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have the TomTom One from earlier this year (2nd Edition) and decided to pickup this unit (Third edition) since it was under $150 back in November-just before Black Friday. I actually picked up 3 of these to pass out during Christmas. I had originally picked up the Garmin c330 from Walmart, however decided to return them after catching this on sale. I like the TomTom for many reasons, some of the better features I have listed below.
1) Nice Screen- Clear, Bright, Nice Color Options
2) Help Me Feature- A few taps provides you with info to local Police and Hospital
3) Speaker - Loud and Clear (Link it to your Speed and it auto corrects)
4) MapShare -Correct your Maps
5) Fast- Calculates and Jumps between settings quickly
It doesn't have Text to Speech capability, which as you may or may not know, really jacks the price up on most units. This is the case for most unless you come across some with TTS such as Mio or Omnitech. For the quality build of this unit, the safety features of the "Help Me" button and the Map correction software it is hard to overlook this little giant. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable GPS unit with really good directions and Great web support.
Customer Review: Use daily, and it's the easiest Summary: 5 Stars
First, as with any GPS, it's not 100% accurate. I now have had several TomToms and the physical locations are a little off, but close. The manual even states "within 30 feet," which is about 3.5 car lanes across. So if I type in my physical home address, I may be 1/10 of a mile away. Not bad at all.
Also, any GPS doesn't know local conditions. Judging by speed limits and distance, my GPS tells me to take a main road to avoid traffic (using the traffic receiver); it doesn't know that it would take me 30 minutes to move 3 miles through the traffic congestion and traffic lights.
My job has me driving all day, and this TomTom One 3rd edition was my first GPS. It's the best! My dad has had Magellen and now Garmin, but TomTom is so much easier to use and personalize. After I bought this a couple years ago, I bought the RDS-TMC traffic antenna as well, and it was always well worth it.
I went on to buy a TomTom One 130 for my wife (the price was right), but it was not as quick to access satellites as the 3rd edition is. I now have my third TomTom (so that I have traffic updates at no additional charge), moved the 3rd edition to my wife's car, and sold the 130. I highly recommend this 3rd edition!
Customer Review: great value, esp for the sale price Summary: 5 Stars
first gps after months of interest and reading reviews. then the thanksgiving to christmas sale price pushed me off the fence. work sends me to out of the way places. i've already gone on a few rural trips in louisiana with tomtom one 3rd ed. even with detailed printed maps, i got tired of getting lost and trying to keep track of miles between turns and scrambled hwy numbers. very frustrating, esp when you have to be in a strange place at a specific time.
with tomtom, i liked having eta time, miles left to next turn, name of next street to turn onto, miles left to go. this thing let me enjoy the rural rides since i could not get lost. if you miss a turn, tomtom adjusts the route (i did that a few times as an experiment when i actually got to a town early). recent construction and closed roads--just tell tomtom to find an alternate route. i did not care about extra whistles and bells. i did not want a multimedia player. i just wanted a device to get me where i needed to go. i was pleasantly surprised how well it worked (unlike some other electronics purchases this year). you cannot beat this device for the sale price unless you want old maps.
