Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TomTom ONE 3rd Edition 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Vehicle NavigatorCustomer Review: Very easy to use GPS at a great price !! Summary: 5 Stars
The TomTom One ( 3rd edition ) is a very nice little GPS. I picked one up today for $104 at Staples.
It is easy to use, small, attractive, and has all the features you really need and want in a GPS while leaving out those that you do not need. In my opinion a GPS should be a GPS and not an MP3 player, video player, book reader, language translator, etc. There are other devices that perform those functions and do a much better job with actual keyboards and nice, large displays, greater memory, etc.
The TomTom One performs navigation and does it easily and friendly. You do not need to read any manual, it is just that easy. The speaking voice is loud and clear. The device has millions of points-of-interests and you can easily add ones that are not found and then upload them using the free TomTom Home software to share with others and eventually TomTom will add them to the database once they verify them. Nice !!
The unit uses the TeleAtlas database and I have found it to be quite accurate here in my local area in Albuquerque NM.
I also purchased the TomTom ONE zippered hard case and it fits the unit well and offers good protection. I also recommend it for your unit.
So, if you want a very affordable, very easy to use GPS, that gets you from point A to B in a fun way then you cannot go wrong with the TomTom ONE ( 3rd Edition ).
Customer Review: TomTom 3 Summary: 5 Stars
Works as advertised. Great unit. Easy to learn. I love it when your on an interstate and a rest stop warning comes on 1 mile ahead. Also, has many selectable warnings also like gas stations.
I like the computer link, easy to keep updated.... The unit can only do one trip at a time. You cannot store multiple trips. It will remember favorite locations which make it easy to enter a trip.
Multiple trips are available on the more expensive Tomtoms.
We live in a large complex development. Now we just enter the address and the unit will direct you to the front door of new friends..
Police and Fire depts should have one of these.
The battery works good. I have a 12v ac convertor for house use.. When planning a cross country trip the Tomtom will show the routes. You can insert a favorite point (only one) to force the route through towns of your choice. For a long trip with multiple forced stops you will have to break it into smaller trips(no big deal).. Again the more expensive tomtoms are better for longer trips.... But, the 3tomtom is fine for once in a while trips...
Get the carry pouch ($17) to protect the unit when not in the car.
Overall we love it and can't imagine how we got along without it... Much better than the build in units on some cars and much cheaper...
Customer Review: Tom Tom beats Garmin like a drum! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had a Garmin for about two years and hate it. I got the Tom Tom One for Christmas and right out of the box it was ready to go. I downloaded the voice of John Cleese (Monty Python Flying Circus) and he is hilarious...makes for some humor while driving.
Customer Service gets two thumbs up! Called them the day after Christmas because I downloaded an updated map that was corrupt. Within 5 minutes of calling, Amanda was helping me clear the corrupted file on my GPS unit and my computer and she downloaded a clean map update directly to my account for free. Shortly thereafter my Tom Tom was back up and working great!
Don't know why anyone would be hung up on having the text to speech feature. If you are driving you shouldn't be reading your GPS you should be watching the road. It only takes 1 second of your eyes leaving the road to have an accident.
The screen clearly displays the road, the next turn in miles, and the voice guides you a head of time when to turn and then again when it is time to turn. Duh...a no-brainer and requires no reading while driving. If it got any simpler a Caveman could do it.
For $149 it is no frills but does get the job done nicely. I really don't want or need a GPS unit to play my iPod and run my cell phone for me...I just need directions so I don't get lost! lol
Customer Review: My New Security Blanket Summary: 5 Stars
Due to a break-in of my car, I was recently forced to upgrade my GPS. I had a TomTom in the past, chosen mainly because my first name is Tom, and I liked it so much that it was a no-brainer getting another one. My TomTom ONE is all the things I liked in my older model, plus some improvements.
My fave feature is ONE's speed. My dad has a Magellan and it is slow. When you are stopped at a red light, trying to dial your destination, you could die waiting for his Magellan. Tapping the ONE screen causes it to leap into action, fast, fast, fast.
The maps need still need work, one destination I plugged in didn't accept street numbers, but they were there, and the ONE deposited me at the farthest street number from my destination.
Despite it's minor deficiencies, my ONE is my security blanket. I have it on even when I know where I'm going, just for validation. I love how it labels the cross streets, so there's no squinting at street signs, I consider its speedometer more accurate than mine. The layout of the screen is excellent and easy to understand at a glance. The voices are good, if my girlfriend doesn't like the southern lass voice, we can easily switch it out for a sexy Aussie man, much to my chagrin. However, I do have my Australian accent down pretty good....
Customer Review: Very Simple to use entry level GPS Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this for my wife, she is not as into tech items like I am. With that in mind I had to find a gps that was simple to use and easy to understand. I made a few test runs with this unit in the local area (40 mile radius for those trips) and even took a trip from Milwaukee, WI to Platteville, WI (about 300 miles round trip). I have to say that the TomTom preformed perfectly, it even helped to get me to a local restaurant in Platteville once we got there using the POI interface.
It doesn't get any easier - type in the city, state, and street address and a few minutes later you're on your way. Prompts to turn were dead on accurate. For a bare bones, get me from point A to B gps this is as good as it gets. For those that argue that the gps takes you on a tour of your neighborhood and the directions are a bit goofy ask yourself this one question: Why are you using this for directions to places you already know how to get to? There are many routes to get from A to B, but if you don't know any of them does it really matter how you get there as long as you do get there?
Only one drawback, 2 hour battery life, but that's what the car charger is for.
You can't go wrong with the TomTom One 3rd edition to get you from A to B at the current price of $150.
