Customer Review: BEST VALUE for Money GPS.

If you buy this GPS any less than 150 than you have made a steal. This is a no non-sense, robust & solid performance GPS. I was looking for a GPS, which does it's job and does it well for a price which is justified. TomTom 3rd edition is certainly one of those. The GARMIN's of the world may also do the same job but at a needlessly high price. It does all what we want
1.) Great Signals in minutes - Even in New York City areas.
2.) The thing that I like most about this GPS is that it tells you after how much distance is your next action going to come. E.g. 350 yards for next right turn and in big letters & symbol distinctly on the screen. This helps you just if you forgot what the GPS last said or you were in a conversation with a partner when it mentioned you last.
3.) It tells you the time by when you will reach your destination which gets adjusted by your speed. This is especially helpful if you are driving long distances and want to be at a place before some deadline.
4.) It is really slim to put it in your shirt pocket unlike some other bulky GPS's. Allows easy removal & storage in the car cabinet when not in use.
5.) One good thing it does is that, instead of saying 'Turn right on Main St' it tells you 'Take the 2nd right'. Though it would have been good if it just displayed the next turn i.e 'Main St' on the screen. The good thing is that you do not have to look for street names at intersections and allows you to concentrate on the road ahead.
Overall anything less than $150 is a steal for this GPS & < $175 a good bargain.

I just recently purchased the tomtom one 3rd edition. I purchased this
shortly after I had visited somebody who had an earlier edition of the tomtom device and I was so impressed with it. This thing is awesome!
Really well done and easy to use. It makes getting lost in your vehicle virtually impossible. I bought this in time to make a long road trip from Miami FL to Memphis TN, and I can say this tomtom GPS saved me a world of grief on the long road trip and just made the trip so much simpler, smoother and safer. Its all touch screen,, and the setup menus are really well done and easy to get familiar with. This is well worth the money... as I see it, the $$$ cost of this thing pays for itself in keeping me from getting lost. When you get lost you waste time and gas and not to mention the agrivation you go through... as well getting lost in the wrong area can at times be a safty concern. When you have this tomtom one and you learn how to use it.. you will just get exactly to where you need to go. Turn buy turn it just gets you there.. and it does it very well. It also has a lot of cool things... such as you can use it to find you Points if interest near you or near any location you desire. This can be really helpful if you are traveling out of your neck of the woods and you need to find a hotel, or restaraunt, shopping etc.
really great device.. and you can get it hooked up to a PC and update the maps and download other ad-ons and its very simple to do.

After lots of research and checking with other GPS users, I got this unit for approximately $140. It is really a good quality/cost deal. Here information that you may find useful:
- It is compact but still clear while driving showing you your position and surroundings.
- Multiple voices, clear and precise. The GPS doesn't count with text-to-speech, so it won't tell you what specific street name you need to turn on, but it will give you precise directions while driving using different measurements: miles, wards and feed, plus it will consider your driving speed giving you the necessary chance to maneuver.
- Route reprogramming is amazingly quick. Alternative routes allow all sorts for changes before or while driving.
- Multiple colors, day and night for clear viewing.
- Excellent reception under bridges and tunnels and in buildings-crowded areas.
- The screen during driving is very clear, one quick look and you got the info, plus all the items in the screen are customizable, the touch-screen is very sensitive so typing is easy.
- TomTom allows you to update the maps in the unit plus add lots of other features thru an easy to install software.
In summary, the unit will give you every feature that you need in a true GPS, without fancy features like MP3 and others that don't make to them and take a lot more money from your pocket. The power and capabilities of this unit significantly exceeded my expectations.

I purchased one of these 3rd Edition units for my parents who were about to take a trip. Dad is hard of hearing and reasonably capable on the computer, so I wanted something easy to use with good volume. It worked like a charm and they absolutely love it. Dad can easily hear it while driving, so I can rest a bit easier when they're on the road.
They convinced me to buy one as well. I had some specific needs as I do astronomy research and needed a GPS that would allow me to input latitude and longitude, cross roads, and two waypoints (one for the point on the paved road as a turn-off and the coordinates down the unmarked dirt road as a destination). The Tom Tom is the least expensive unit I found that fit all my needs. It has far more features than some units costing twice as much. It's great at finding satellites and I have yet to lose tracking while on the road. It usually works inside the buildings, too.
The TomTom Home software is nice for updates and uploading voices and more, but actually creating updated maps is a little bothersome. I really wish the software would hook into Google Maps or other imagery so I didn't have to mark each little bend on the touch screen. That's really a minor quibble. My area has lots of new construction and I've created quite a few map updates to match the latest changes.
All-in-all, this is a fantastic little unit loaded with features. I'd highly recommend it!

I previously had the TomTom Navigator 5 then Navigator 6 which I used with my Palm Treo phone and I loved them. Then I got a new job which required a GPS several times a day. That's when I realized how slow my old system was. It was great for one long trip, but took way too long for many short trips a day. So I started researching through Google and reading customer reviews on Amazon.com. Since I was only familiar with TomTom and happy with their products, most of my research was done on their products. I started reading up on the top of the line model which was like $900 which I could no way afford. Then I kept reading, moving down one model at a time. After checking them all out, I came to the conclusion that the quality of the product line was the same from the most expensive to the least. The 2 major differences were the options (which I didn't need) and the screen size (the smallest was considerably larger than what I had been using. So for the first time that I can remember, I bought the absolute entry level product and I couldn't possibly be happier. I've been using it daily for about a month and totally LOVE IT!!! In nearly 2,000 miles of daily driving to about 4 to 6 different addresses around a good sized metropolitan area and its outskirts, it has been not only quick and easy to use, but deadly accurate. I would whole heartedly recommend the TomTom One 3rd Edition to anyone looking for a no-frills navigation system!
